They say this & then take days off. A gringo interprets this remark as working 24/7 until completion because that's the way we have been raised. A Mexican worker explained their way to me once; "Americans live to work, Mexicans work to live." Made me rethink a lot of things. Mañana amigos, mañana!
A friend explained one time that a Mexican kid will say, "Dad, it's a beautiful day for the Beach! Can we go?" The Dad will think a moment, "Work? Beach? Work will wait - my kid might not." And off they go to the beach. A US Dad will think, "Work? Beach? The beach (and my kid) can wait until tomorrow. I need to get this work finished." I have to admit, I always left mopping the floors for manana and headed to the beach with the kids. In my 70s now with them all grown up the memories I love are those beach days - not scrubbing the floors. The port will get built - manana - in the meantime I'm betting they are enjoying some beach days.

Part true part romantic clap trap...go to the Asparagus fields and watch the happy go lucky Mexican workers pulling 12 hour shifts.Go to Heradura Mine and see what a long day in hell looks like, talk to shop girls in Caborca that take home 60 pesos a day,On the other hand Mexican workers on their own and with like minded crew members do work in bursts...fishermen when it's time to fish or construction crew that work a half day Saturday when the weather is hotter and a hour less in the week.Mexican workers are screwed....crooked unions, sellout politicians, bad trade deals that did not enforce labor standards....sometimes when the man pretends to pay you you pretend to work right back at him.
We joined a group today to view the progress being made on the cruise ship port. There is no progress. We interviewed one of the 2 dozen men standing around their trucks and he said they were not working because they had not been paid. He said he was owed 60,000 P, and his friends volunteered they were owed 30,000 to 90,000 P. He said there has been 2 weeks of work since early February. He mentioned they all owe for diesel credit they had received from some supplier. When asked, he said the problem was caused by disputes between the Federal govt and the State govt, which are different parties. He used the Democruts and Repubicans as an example.

I guess if I had actual money invested I may be concerned, but since I don't....a daily report about things that don't really concern me is a waste.....To complain about something you don't have a personal interest in is simply pissing in the wind...it means nothing, don't waste your free time int his game.

Russ, personal interest isn't only defined by monetary investment. All of us here have a personal interest because it affects a place we frequent and enjoy. I agree that a daily report isn't necessary, but you have to admit this is beginning to look like a disaster. There's word around town that lots of money, not just from federal funds for the port, but local funds as well, are being "diverted" by local politicians for their own personal "projects". Welcome to Mexico. But I still love the place - warts and all.

Some on this forum smelled a rat from the beginning. They were attacked by other Americans with dreams of wealth from the flow of travelers coming to take a cruise. The boosters seemed to ignore the fact that the bread and butter of Puerto Penasco ( the American vacation home owner) will be negatively effected by this influx. Now it looks like another problem with this project is being revealed.A fight for control of the project between PAN and PRI possibly or is it a attempt to cleanup the culture of corruption by one side before things proceed? ( the rumor I heard)

The latter would be ideal, but that might be an even bigger dream than BoomerBust or the Port.
With any luck they throw in the towel in it's current state. I'd hate for more money to be wasted and it becoming an even larger eyesore before ultimately failing. As is, Maybe they can do something cool with it (fishing, market, entertainment, etc). I'm assuming that the cost to remove all that rock would be astronomical.
They are still working at Black Mtn. Big dust cloud was in the air as we went by there today.
We hear blasting from Black Mountain everyday in barrio Lopez Portillo They're just blasting rock for the heck of it I guess. They don't really intend on using it on the port project cuz they can't pay their truckers or something like that! we'll all see what happens.
I am still bullish on this place (Peñasco) although it could be run better by some of our forum members that have better overall management experience. (sarc on)
I still have not heard a good explanation for this hire...
"Construction great Vision (GRAVI), the company of Luis Cano Raymundo, who was assigned the work of construction of the breakwater of the Homeport of Puerto Peñasco (Sonora), been used for the award of subcontracts of the work to an ex-narcotraficante that is now being investigated by the PGR for money laundering.
Alfredo Vergara
Alfredo Vergara Álvarez, a drug trafficker who served a sentence of five years in the United States for cocaine trafficking, now has been responsible for the award of subcontracts in the company of Luis Cano. Well-informed sources have confirmed the PGR investigates him for money laundering, with a record in the town of Sonoita, whereby we have your inquiry number.
Luis Cano
Among people in the city of Puerto Peñasco, nobody understands the presence of this ex-delincuente in sensitive function, except that you are representing the interests of third parties involved, which move in the underworld, and serve as a link for any collection.
The architect Luis Raymundo Cano is back, so close to an inquiry of the PGR."

Can't believe everything you read Jerry, This sounds like the Spaniards lawyer talking bullshit about the Grijalvas (Northbeach) lawyer, last I heard the lawyer took the position pro bono, http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/1125rockypoint1125.html

Wish he would of posted when he did the 5 years, I just posted the north beach fiasco to post a timeline, I know a few people have used him from the forum for land disputes. He does do background checks for buyers and sellers, maybe that's why he got the gig.

Also this report is coming out of Baja which views Penasco as a threat to the cruise business, which seems shakey over there already from other stories on the site.
The Home Port jetty work has been pretty quiet since Sunday, gates closed with about 15 trucks parked outside
and the Track hoes parked.
Maybe waiting for the Boomerfest to begin and start work again to make boomster's grumpy.

Right truck said pretty much that. (carriers require full payment for work performed)
Left is iffy on the translation, but looks like they want 100% of what was promised from the state governor/government?
Only some dust clouds from Black Mtn. and a whole lot of nothing at the former site of Sandy Beach.
One way we can get on it to do day camping is to rent a RV slot for $20, oh my! how things have changed.LOL
just assume that the schedule is 1 week on and 2 weeks off... this way it will be less of a surprise for those waiting for the hourly play by play.

That is to bad you would think the sandy beach owners would like the income they used to get $5.00 per day is better than nothing but I guess the home port builders don't want anyone near their area. For safety reasons but what the hell they opened it for samanta santa

???? I really have no opinion of you just said.
Just reporting the happenings as I find out about them.
Hey a few thousand cars paying $8 per per day for Semana Santa = easy money for whoever collected it.
If you have issues with it, Go talk to the Brown's or their holding company.
OK maybe I will go by and ask Gus why he will take money on semana Santa and no other time and yes it has to be easy money and in one since it is a issue that so many people lost a beach area they loved even if they had to pay so work or lack of work on the Port
Yes I agree with you, 100%, I am not remotely happy the beach access went away,
sadly part of the major change that has happened here over the past 20 years.
Does anyone have a voice with what the SBR people do?
Based on the ambitious scale of the finished project in that video, all the port non-fans need to relax.
Because it will be another 40-60 years for those improvements to be finished. (If "Big" If Ever")
And that means it will be up to the future generations to complain while we all roll over in our graves.
Huge amount of money needed to do something of that scale, and with 30-50% of funding not being used for projects
it's hard to see this ever being completed.
I believe there will still be a port, but more on the scale of what PV and Mazatlan have which is pretty basic.
Just read that the workers are on strike again. They are owed 2 months of pay in the amount of $1,900,000 pesos or approximately $152,000 USD. This is affecting the families of 70 workers.

Here is a pic of their parked trucks demanding to be paid from last Friday.

Looks like there was a conference call between the subcontractor, Alfredo Vergara Alvarez, the truck drivers, and some media people. This Vergara Alvarez guy is blaming the consortium for lack of payment to the drivers. But apparently they're starting to freak out that the project is going to get cancelled if it's held up much longer. I didn't understand the full content, but I think I read that they're trying to get drivers to bring in rock from the Herradura Mine so that the project doesn't stay "paralyzed".

Mina La Herradura to Puerto Penasco road will be a nightmare if this happens.I would rather risk being taken or washed away in a monsoon storm on the Sasabe-Altar road than follow those pothole creators...
So where is that mine and how far? It all started with lack of planning and using the right contractor for this project, how many times do they need a project to get in trouble till they get a clue.

The mine is past the Mayan Palace about 20 miles south. The road will be a wreck
Thanks Jerry I do want this project to succeed but their has been so much bullshit from the beginning that it has hard for me to keep a positive attitude
EverardoFimbresOcaña was picked at head of the transport workers union last year as I read it.It did not take him long to sell out the workers in Penasco...that fat assed mayor better show some leadership
Just read that this morning the police served a restraining order against 13 dump truck drivers and they secured the site of the trucks. Another report says some of the drivers were arrested. Not looking good for this project.
As for the Mayor, the town HATES him. I feel bad for his wife because she's a nice lady, trying to do some good things, but word on the street is that nobody will support her projects because of her husband.

Somehow in my stupidity it strikes me they are arresting the wrong people, but that's just me. What do I know?
Maybe RockyPoint360,Russ etc. need to consider their positions on the homeport in light of the abuse these hard working guys are taking...from a local "
they havent been paid for 3 months and are just asking for that....while the federal govt is bringing in another contractor to finish the job,and leaving these guys hanging without pay
6 of the guys are still in jail right now on 10k bond..upon bond, theyre being told to remain silent about this whole thing or theyll be jailed again!!

I guess we will never know the crux of this is trucker strike, the project will move forward and the soap opera will play out.
These giant trucks on the road to Herradura will be a nightmare.I put the over/under of deaths at 4...broken windshields at 500, The road is a real mess again near the mine if you are taking a boat to Lobos lookout....bad!!!!!!
I think the hinted at understory is a big one.The rocks put in so far are the wrong size and could cause the Jetty to have problems in the future.
Problems in the future is exactly what this project will get. You treat your employees/people well & they will give you a good day's work and their respect. That will also earn you the respect of their family & friends. If you screw them over you will get the same in return, forever. People don't forget these type of things, ever. RP is a small town and word travels fast. This project is huge. It will require many workers & will take years to complete. Then it will need an ongoing work force to run it for many years into the future. You can't bring all your employees from other states. The well has been poisened & it's the only well in town.
It all started when we some of us asked who is the contractor of record. Yes it maybe built but at who's expense if anyone out their thinks this is fair deal for the truckers because their paper work was not in order they should not be paid. You have never worked for yourself. It is not them it is the contractor of record Who the government chose. Wake up!!!
Only in Mexico can corruption and greed screw up a perfectly good boondoggle. Well, I imagine there are a few other third world countries that could screw it up quicker. Nigeria comes to mind.

Greed, Power and corruption are the winning formula in Mexico and a whole lot of other places.
Sadly!
So glad that doesn't happen here in the good ol' USA: for anyone here in Tucson, Rio Nuevo comes to mind! $230 Million wasted- that's a lot of Home Ports, and all we have to show is a parking lot!
