Wrecked is closed during the remodel, Circus Mexicus will be a challenge although with the Hut being open I believe we will see it on the sand lot across the street
I thought it was part of a new master plan or something that started but ran out of $$
Todd, the skeleton on the north side of The Hut was part of something that ran out of money, but Eddy says this is new construction on the opposite side of the street closer to the Spa.
SWEEEET...Heres a couple pics I shot yesterday from my boat....The rocks are coming from the back side or North side of Black Mountain that we cant see from the city..That side of Black Mountain was already chewed up before this project started.....Apx 150 trucks are dumping rock per day, even work was going on after dark last night..SBR said this pier will go out apx 800 meters ( south ) then apx 400 meters ( west )....This pier will make the new state of the art boat marina possible and elevate RP into the big leagues like Cabo & other cities..
If a boat is a hole in the water in which to pour money' - what is a cruise ship terminal?
The nightmare begins: I question multipliers and industry assumptions overstating the economic against the balance of social and environmental costs resulting from atmospheric emissions, marine effluents, traffic noise and congestion, road repairs, and public subsidies and loss of a pleasant view shed from the condos.
If it goes good you will not say anything, and if it goes bad you will post all the atrocities that go along with it and your bud sub will go along with you on your little ti-raids about how right you are to distrust everything Mexico and how great it is to be an American .....who for some reason lives in Mexico....Who knows how it will go? I am betting it's a good thing.......Well cuz I am a positive type booster person! AJUA Loyal dogs! I love loyal dogs = cliffs and all!

You don't have any Dogs on here Russ, maybe 3 cheerleaders and a couple pom pom girls, LOl, I hope the project goes full throttle.
How amazing is the fishing going to be for us kayak anglers up against that breakwater????? Those rocks are going to be holding fish!!! That's the only positive to this. Still taking bets for first cruise ship departure, over under 2018. I'm taking the over!!!!
Kenny, You call it politics, I call it government getting in the way.
Well don't you think the government should get in the way enough to make sure garbage and sh#! doesn't pile up on Pinto Point, or would that be to invasive?

I actually trust the cruise ship company to protect the enviroment that they make there money off. Have you seen the beaches in Cholla bay on Sunday's after the locals get through with it.
Pintopoint.....read this...Cruise ships the size of small cities ply the waters off our coasts, producing and then dumping large amounts of sewage and other wastes into our oceans, polluting our beaches, contaminating our coral reefs, and destroying our valuable marine ecology. Some of that waste is treated prior to dumping; other waste is dumped directly to the ocean without a second thought. A large cruise ship, the largest of which can carry over 7,000 passengers and crew, on a one week voyage is estimated to generate 210,000 gallons (or 10 backyard swimming pools) of human sewage and 1 million gallons (40 more swimming pools) of graywater (water from sinks, baths, showers, laundry and galleys). Cruise ships also generate large volumes of oily bilge water, sewage sludge, garbage and hazardous wastes. In addition, these luxury liners, which allow passengers a rare glimpse of some of the most sensitive environments on the planet, spew a range of pollutants into the air that can lead to serious public health problems and contribute to global warming.
The rapidly expanding size and number of cruise ships in U.S. waters has triggered a national cruise ship pollution crisis. Environmental laws have not kept pace with growth of the industry. Cruise lines travel the most pristine waters of America, dumping all the way. New laws and standards are urgently needed.
Well Jerry, what a negative poster you are........smacks of "not in my backyard" just move on dude.
Geoffrey..that is the kind of reply some of us got when we warned people from buying at Riviera real and Playa Azul and later Liberty Cove from real estate huckster locals in Rocky Point. I figure I personally saved people from losing 2 million dollars on those scams.
http://www.foe.org/cruise-report-card. On the brighter side Holland America and Carnival get good grades hope it is them not the bottom tier...I do not want Joe to get a poop rash as he fishes off the rocks

Jerry,
Just because an article states something does not make it true. There are strict regulations for me on my 26' boat. Now the State of Sonora did extensive research and environmental studies before even considering the cruise port. So Mexico does not care about one of its greatest resources?

But bro even in Australia the expert reports are shopped....looking for the best to make the project go....do you remember when CEDO was all against the marina by Sandy Beach 4 years ago...how is this different and why have they not spoken up? http://www.cedointercultural.org/content/view/99/100/lang,en/

Jerry,
If I remember right the residential marina was stopped because it included the marsh area where a lot of the juvenile fish are hatched and raised. The new marina is from the shoreline out. Completely different project.
I'm all for RP growing and generally try to put a positive spin on things. That being said, this project seems like a huge waste of money. I would have much rather seen this money go towards a Sonoyta bypass and road improvements around main parts of town. That would draw tourism, not some cruise port that will never be used. Obviously I'm taking the over on 2018...

Been watching a lot of videos on youtube lately of people LIGHTING their TAP WATER on FIRE because of shale drilling. I'm guessing you're against regulation of that too...

It was the same hype when we learned of the International Airport in what, 2006? Look how that turned out. It just now started operating this past summer of 2013. On a limited basis. We will not see a cruise ship in RP till 2020
Im all for PROGRESS in RP.. Build the home port, the people want it, the people love it, cant wait to take the first cruise!!
A few of you people on this forum need to get a life ( you know who you are ). You know your the ones who have nothing better to do than to argue & bash everything about RP while living in AZ. Yes we know you hate the RP resorts, you hate the progress in RP, easy solution don't come to RP. Go to El Golfo and sit by yourself on the beach & argue w/ yourself all day long.

Mike ...when those Baby Ruth's start appearing in the surf in front of your pigeon coop as the cruise ship sets sail make sure they are the real deal

"This ruling will stop the destruction of a shallow rocky reef that has immense ecological and social importance, including being used as a marine reserve by local commercial divers to promote sustainable fisheries, elevated levels of biodiversity, presence of several protected species and its proximity to the Upper Gulf Biosphere Reserve". They will be dragging the crap out of the sea bottom

I'm all for progress too, but I strongly disagree that this is the right way to go about it. For lack of a better phrase, this is like putting lipstick on a pig. You can't build a shiny new cruise terminal when you still have streets lined with trash, unfinished buildings everywhere, etc... Have you ever been to Cancun before? You get off the plane, jump in your shuttle and take a well maintained and neatly landscaped road directly to the hotel zone without really seeing a hint of poverty, trash, etc. Having homeless people try to wash your car with newspapers scares off your average suburban family from Gilbert, hell probably a wealthy family from Mexico too.
I don't want to come off like a snob, because I love RP for what it is and don't care about the things mentioned above. But if it's really going to be a cruise destination or home port, then lets start with the basics and get the place cleaned up. (We'll keep the violence issue to the other thread)

Yes, this is exactly the same thing. "If you build it, they will come"
... Well, maybe with one flight a week, four months out of the year, seven years later

You represent the local population?
BRO, maybe you're missing something here. We all LOVE and VISIT Penasco FREQUENTLY. Just because we're critical of something or oppose something doesn't mean we are BASHING RP. Get a CLUE BRO.
You know we hate the resorts? Well, wrong again Mikeinthesand. I frequently stay in the PIGEON COOPS. We hate progress in RP? Wrong, wrong, wrong again BRO.
Easy solution, I KEEP COMING TO ROCKY POINT 10 trips a year and I KEEP POSTING WHATEVER I FEEL LIKE POSTING ON THIS DISCUSSION FORUM.
I'll go to SANTO TOMAS and ARGUE with JERRY ABOUT WHOS FISH IS BIGGER and WHY I SHOULDN'T DO 70MPH TO THE EJIDO FOR SNACKS AT THE END OF THE DAY. Too much fun.

No doubt it's intended for the people, but please explain how this benefits them long term? Sure you may have some temporary construction jobs, but after that, what? The biggest benefit to the people is more American tourism. Dumping a bunch of rocks into the water isn't going to bring that. If the casual tourist is going to start coming down here, the place needs to be cleaned up. Have you been around Las Conchas recently? I was there over Thanksgiving and it looked like a landfill over by the train tracks near the entrance. This is unacceptable for a cruise stop, end of story. Make your average American comfortable with a mixed drink in their hand, and then the people of RP will benefit.
I like the use of Bro in conversation. It is inclusive and friendly while making the point that whoever you think you are in our conversation it is just you and me talking .It is uniquely American bro.

Thanks, I have a life. I don't know Jerry and I'm sure he is a fine gentleman. Only, his post sounds like so many other attitudes I have heard. I wish I was free to post my opinions on this board but I get bashed from the likes of you. So who is wrong here BRO.
Geoff, we're just having a conversation.......Hey, my bet is the port will end up a loser for the average Puerto Penasco Mexican citizen.Still, if I am wrong that would make me happy.
For people that come down from Arizona to enjoy the beach at their condos and beach houses this thing will suck for sure. For real estate hustlers most likely a win. The only thing I really give a crap about the Sea of Cortez ...well it will be a disaster for the Vermilion Sea.......show me the studies that say this dredging, pollution and potential for disaster have been really looked into.
I'm really good at this Geoffrey, so let me take a guess... Mmmmm by looking at your avatar you're a Irishman who drinks to much? No? OK, a Irishman on speed and steroids?
Governor Padrés to view work on Puerto Peñasco Home Port
January 13, 2014 | Filed under: News | Posted by: Sami
State Press Release:
Sonora Governor Guillermo Padrés announces he’ll be visiting Puerto Peñasco in coming days to supervise work on the Home Port, work on which is already underway. He notes the project will benefit not just this municipality but other points within the Sea of Cortez, including Guaymas.
The Puerto Peñasco Home Port, he added, sets a historic precedent not just for Sonora but for Mexico as it will be the first of its kind nationally. The local Home Port is anticipated to go into operation in 2015.
“We estimate during the first years we’ll have about half a million “cruise-goers” going through Puerto Peñasco, which is why this is a very important topic for the State, for Guaymas, and for Puerto Peñasco,” he commented.
Sonora anticipates a good year overall in the area of tourism, furthered Governor Padrés, with a rebound in hotel occupancy given actions such as the Convention Center in Puerto Peñasco, the Historic Center of Nogales, along with investments in Magdalena, Hermosillo, Álamos, Cd. Obregon, and communities in the mountains, among others.
“We are going to continue investing in order to boost tourism in the State. We are building tourism centers, such as that of Mazocahui and that of the Yaquis in Obregón; we are fixing highways and doing everything necessary to welcome much more tourism,” he emphasized.
said the idiot that thought the Iraq war was a good idea...
Yeah he seems an idiot to me too, I guess.....

The Whales will suffer ....Just got the rundown from unnamed local environmentalists ( fear payback) who believes this will be blow to the Sea of Cortez and will effect the beach and tidal pools on Sandy beach
Here is some factual information that'll make you cringe. The below excerpts were sourced from Oceana.org's U.S. Laws and Regulations, and illustrate just how loose environmental regulations on cruise ships are:
"The average cruise ship with 3000 passengers and crew generates about 30,000 gallons of human waste and 255,000 gallons of non-sewage gray water every day.
"Cruise ships are allowed to release treated sewage almost anywhere they sail. They are also permitted to release untreated gray water - non-sewage wastewater from galleys, dishwashers, baths, sinks, showers, and laundries - anywhere they sail, except Alaska.
"Cruise ships can also lawfully release untreated sewage, or black water, anywhere beyond three miles from the shore (except in vervain areas of Alaska).

That's assuming there will ever actually be 3,000 people on a ship leaving out of the Home Port. I just don't see it happening. The airport's been open how long now? Where are all the people flying in?

I almost spit out my coffee when I read that 500,000 number... Now that they're dumping rocks in the ocean, what cruise lines have signed up to ship out? I remember reading that Holland America originally had plans 7 years ago, but then backed out.
And how are all those people going to get to RP? The once a week flight from Hermosillo and Vegas would fill up what, 2% of one of those ships?
From what I recall, this home port was geared towards the Mexican Nationals. It would allow them a means to take a cruise without having to go too far and not have to travel into the US. Of course there would be US travelers as well.
A bit OT: See Todd's post above. What's with the "anonymous" liking now? All it says is "1 person likes this." Not saying nobody should like what he said, I've just never seen the anonymous "like" before.
