Any body going fishing this weekend

Sorry Bill- I'll be working this weekend. I'd certainly rather be down fishing- last weekend was a complete blowout.

What to include in a fishing first aid kit?

Hah- no kidding Bill- that was a pretty beefy hook. at least my finger healed up nice and fine. Edna did a bang up nursing job- maybe SHE should be included in every sailor's first aid kit :)

Best time of year for shore fishing?

That is a Longjaw Leatherjack- one of the many species commonly called Pompano. Here is the listing on Mexfish: http://www.mexfish.com/fish/ljleath/ljleath.htm

What to include in a fishing first aid kit?

A bolt cutter capable of cutting an Owner 7/0 bait hook after he runs it through his finger 50 miles offshore.... That's all that was missing from my first aid kit this past December.

Baja Arizona. Let's Make This Happen!

How about if, instead of constantly trying to re-draw lines on maps, people focused their energies on living free...? I mean, a state's (or nation's) problems do not begin until that state or nation is drawn somewhere on a map, right? It starts out as some bizarre tribal pride, and then the...

    cant catch a break.

True Dat. No one will have any reasons not to have their boat in tip-top form when this weather breaks, that's for sure. And It looks like I'll have plenty of time to get my taxes done and out of the way before April 15.

    number 14 @ 90 pounds

Very nice fish Rick, and also a good lesson that quality fish can be taken without a run of 50 miles - although for those of us in the "weekends only" crowd, it is a tough decision to dedicate ourselves to spending the time (and gas) searching for new rocks close in when we know that we can...

    Agua Chile?

My wife, who is deathly alergic to seafood (but she married a fisherman- go figure) is at her book club tonight, so guess what I'm making for dinner... I had just enough Clamato left over after making Cocktel de Camorone last week, so I thought I'd try Fermin's aguachile recipe. I'm using...

    A boat question

I know people that have failed spelling tests, but that does not prove that spelling is impossible. If you know what you are doing, then yes, it can be done properly. None of these components are engine parts. They may be powertrain parts, but they are not part of the engine. I went back and...

    A Bay runner Baja

That is pure BS.... MY BOAT is perfect. :) ... even if the scuppers do back-flow onto the deck whenever I run it in reverse- that's what rubber boots are for. Good point about gas prices, Stuart- I just sprung for a new set of props for my suzuki's and from the looks of things, the cost...

    A Bay runner Baja

I'll chime in on Honda outboards: Awesome, but expensive compared to competitors in the same class. Whether you get any extra real "worth" or value out of a Honda O/B versus a Yamaha, Suzuki, or Mercury is anybody's guess, but I'll tell you that seeing a Honda outboard hung on the back of a...

    A boat question

Since most stern drive inboards are converted car engines, they use an automotive passive recirculation pump and thermostat. A temp gauge will tell you all you need to know about whether or not a stern drive engine is cooling properly. If it is not cooling properly, then it gets tricky...

Thoughts on Becoming a Yamaha Technician (or not)

I'm with Stuart when it comes to fixing and maintaining things myself, but after reading this story I clearly do not have Stuart's patience. If I was unable to get the end caps off on the first attempt, I would have been online ordering entire new cylinder assemblies... :)

whats the best shore fish to eat

If it was a turquoise green with flashes of silver, then I would bet that it was a sierra. They can be caught all summer just off the rocks between Sandy Beach and Pelican Point, and sometimes they can be seen boiling up baitfish in the mouths of the estuaries... and they are also delicious...

Giving up on a larger boat

There is really only one advantage to being Master of your own vessel, and that is you get to decide where the boat will be fishing on any given day... of course the flipside to that is that you are also responsible for all bad choices... :)

    water temp.

Maybe I need to schedule a "Rob's only" fishing day aboard my boat... Actually, I think "Robbery" could be a cool name for my boat... after all, I did get a smoking deal on it. What do you guys think? Good thing I haven't ordered those vinyl graphics yet- it might be time for a...

whats the best shore fish to eat

yup, the best success I've had with the flounder is on fresh caught silversides (live or dead doesn't matter) on a 1/2 ounce jighead slowly drug across the bottom. bare jig heads, bucktail jigs or curlytail grubs (same 1/2 ounce size) tipped with a piece of cut bait have also worked for me...
