whats the best shore fish to eat

Triggerfish and Spotted Bay Bass (if you can get one large enough to fillet) both taste very good. Flounder (if you can get one big enough to fillet) is also very tasty- If I had to pick a "favorite" shore fish to eat it would be flounder Corvina and Corbina are both quite good as well...

    Boat Input/Recommendations Welcomed

18 footer is kinda small. My last boat was a HEAVY 20 foot Skipjack, and it still beat us up pretty bad whenever the wind chop got above 1.5 feet. The newer four stroke is the preferable engine, but if the 2 stroke is oil injected, then it should still be realtively hassle free... I think I...

reel hard report for the 29th of jan.

I knew it would be awesome... the weather looked ideal. Too bad I couldn't be down there. I did manage to figure out my boat's lackluster cruise numbers from last week- too little pitch (only 18 inch) on the props, so I am slipping almost 20% at cruise. I'm already taking to the PropGods in...

What are *your* top 5 fav restaurants, taco stands, grub joints in RP!

There is WAY more to try at Al Capones than just Pizza (although the shrimp pizza is the BOMB) They have awesome fish and pasta dishes. If you can handle some heat, try their Shrimp Caribe (which is a whole Caribe pepper stuffed with shrimp, onion and garlic and topped with cheese) -These...

What sort of fishing rods are used while fishing in the ocean?

If this will be your first time fishing in the Ocean, then I recommend renting the equipment- most charter services have gear for rent at reasonable rates. If you still would prefer to purchase your own gear, and you want to buy all new stuff then visit Phoenix Fishing Supply on 16th street-...

    report for jan 1-22-11

Yeah, I'm already researching my Prop situation Dan. (but I'll still gladly join you on the Josefina anytime :)) My Suzuki's should do better than they did- and I can tell it's in the props- If I go hammer down on the holeshot then both engines instantly hit the rev limiter, so I know I've got...

    report for jan 1-22-11

yeah, no snapper, and I also haven't heard any reports of White seabass or halibut either... Someone at the restaurant was saying that he drove over to Desemboque and the locals were loading trucks with big halibut, but that info was just one step above pure rumor.

    report for jan 1-22-11

Absolutely a great day- I LOVE it when buoyweather is not 100% accurate. The seas were as close to ideal on Saturday as you can get. we easily made 30mph going out and 32 coming back in. Oh, and Doug- I lied about my fuel consumption- when I topped it off I had burned 64 gallons, not 45... :)...

Who wants to go fishing tomorrow? (Sat the 22nd)- I have room for one more

This is kinda short notice, but I've decided to ignore bouyweather and I'm going by the rising barometer and my "man on the street" reports from my local RP weatherman (aka Seadweller) I've got room for one more person to fish Saturday with myself, and Bill and Edna. We are meeting at Safe...

Is There really a sign posted on Calle 13 by Cartel ??? Is this true

A highly irresponsible rumor at that. If I ever found a teacher at one of my kid's schools using the children's perceived safety as a pawn for pushing a personal agenda, that teacher would have BIGGER immediate problems than dealing with the Cartel.

Police activity on Sandy Beach Road

Winner winner, chicken dinner! Thank You Kenny. Without going too far off the rails- I've been there. Having been fortuante enough to live the "privileged" gringo lifestyle, and also having spent years in a home where the former "breadwinner" was dying of cancer while the former "Homemaker"...

Police activity on Sandy Beach Road

Bingo. Everyone in Mexico who wants "peace" has to decide whether they want to submit to the armed Cartels, or the armed Government agents... Either scenario would make me uneasy. I'd rather simply arm myself .... ooops, that's right I forgot- you can't do that or else the government agents...

what kind of pargo is this ?

It doesn't have to have the bars.... just like not all Rose Snappers have the black spot on their side. I agree with Reelhard- That fish is most certainly Hoplopagrus guentheri- aka Green Bar Snapper, aka Barred Pargo. Here is a picture of another one without the bars: And another...

    Pemex Fuel Dock?

Fishman- The exact location is at the far south end of the harbor- look for the big PEMEX sign near the big sunset cruise boats. It would be nice if they were open dawn until dusk. So at a 10% premium in the fuel price, It would cost me about 50 bucks more per tank (150 gal), so the only...

Question about anchoring on the deep reefs

Ya know, when I was at Home Depot getting the rebar, they had 1/2 inch aluminum rod and I thought about doing one in aluminum since aluminum doesn't rust, but yeah, aluminum only bends a few times before it snaps, and it is considerably more expensive. Since I already had the center shaft...

Question about anchoring on the deep reefs

Well, I unloaded (and untangled) my rope box and measured out 480 feet of rope, and 20 feet of chain, so I guess I'm good to go. Spent the afternoon out in the garage whipping up two of these:

Question about anchoring on the deep reefs

Thanks Shawn! Makes sense- I think most boating books are basing their guidelines on the expectation of overnighting or long term anchorage, and not using the anchor as a drift-brake. Great advice on the drift sock. I had one in my Skipjack but I let it go with the boat- I needed an excuse...

Question about anchoring on the deep reefs

Last weekend was my first trip out to the famous 51 mile reef with Scott and Doug, and even thought we caught tons of fish drifting, the drift was pretty fast (nearly 2mph), so when I got home I started gathering up the rebar and chain to weld up a "Rocky Point Claw" style anchor for my boat...
