Sonoyta is probably different due to the fact that there is no USA town on the other side to draw from. USA people are mostly passing through - not popping over for a casual dinner, shopping, etc. Makes Sonoyta rather unique. As you said, more a family town then a tourist trap.

The Azul Bar at Bella Sirena has a special of fresh pineapple Pina Colada. It was wonderful! Especially on a warm, more humid, 4th of July afternoon. Would be hard to find a better one. Lots of people in the water and on the beach as well as utilizing every pool.

Russ, great job on the pictures. It really looks like they have done a fab job and will be a place everyone can enjoy, locals, expats & tourists. From the looks of the Mall it appears that it will also be a showcase, as beautiful - if not more so, then malls in the US.
