    Safe in Puerto Penasco?

Yes -- by Caborca Road I don't mean east of, say, Mayan Palace. I'm talking Las Conchas / Encanto / Dorada / Miramar / Mayan. And yes -- those areas are outside of the well lighted and populated Rocky Point proper, so no pedal-to-metal.

    Safe in Puerto Penasco?

For over a decade, we drove late at night on the Caborca Road (out toward Encanto / Dorada / Miramar) upon post-work-hour departure from The States. It was fun in a twisted sort of way to see the wide eyes of any newbie guests we had with us as we drove into the secluded desert on a 2-lane road...

    Search for marg mix

Yep. Grand Marnier is even more golden than Cointreau. The object is to steer from the usual triple sec. As for Controy -- we also did a test-kitchen comparison on that. All agreed that it was not as smooth as Cointreau. But it works. (Oh . . . the sacrifices we have made in the test kitchen...

    Search for marg mix

The only good margarita -- unless you are a spring-breaker or still like those Kool-Aid-style drinks -- is a fresh margarita with quality liquor. After over a decade of Mexico-house-test-kitchen trials with lots and lots of voters over time, here is the hands-down-winning, not-for-kids margarita...

hassled again on my way back into US

Agree. That has been my experience as well. I've learned that the same witty response that evokes laughter or at least a smile from most officers will eventually get you pulled over for a "random check" by that one humorless crab (usually a pumped-up newbie) who demands nothing less than somber...

Rocky Point in the news again

Of course it is not comparable to Vegas. I use the term "high" in perspective, and the term "Vegas" facetiously.

    Homeowners Insurance

Of course, under the ostensibly watchful eye of 24/7 security. Las Conchas and other beaches over time have learned about how helpful . . . or sometimes not . . . security guards can be. Ownership -- especially in more remote areas -- must come with awareness, precautions and (depending on...

Rocky Point in the news again

Makes sense to me to put the port there. After all, that area -- I call it "Vegas" -- attracts high density, high services, high-rise lifestyle. Out by the airport attracts those who prefer seclusion, kids in the sand, dogs on the beach, toes in the water.

Well, I didn't go there, but agree. No TV at our place. Lots of books.

    Homeowners Insurance

Regarding prevention, I've heard of a couple beach-front sweeps where they went from house to house grabbing flat-screen TVs They wiped out all except one, whose screen was bolted on one of those swing-arms to the wall.

    I Saw a Whale!

I only started plotting "sighting season" on my calendar last year, based on blog commentary. The range was January 26 through February 8. But I have no other clue. CEDO would probably be a good source.

    I Saw a Whale!

My calendar notation from last year suggests that I still have a few weeks to get down there for whale-sighting-season. It that holds true, I should really enjoy next week.

Federal Investigation of Border Patrol in Ajo

Already been done. In 2009 $27 billion ADDITIONAL funds were requested of Congress for border security in the Southwest, plus 100 ADDITIONAL agents. Since then we have been seeing a tsunami of fancy buildings, houses, vehicles and agents.

Federal Investigation of Border Patrol in Ajo

Y’know . . . I will suffice it to say that passing through the Ajo area over the last few years has been an in-the-face demonstration of where promises and billions in additional funds are really being dispensed. It is as intentional and well-planned as those other promises that lure us from...

    Happy Dia de Reyes!

Interesting. And the gifting / time range / presenters tradition makes much more sense than the one-day Chiristian / pagan-folklore mishmash.

    A whale of a tail!

Last year I circled a group of weeks on the 2014 calendar (January-February) to remind me when whales are due in Rocky Point. They're on time!

What your favorite drink says about your politics, in one chart

Okay, so a Washington Post writer (ha!) puts forth his scholarly observation that the emerging ruling class has expensive, refined tastes.

Well, since the map represents PERCEIVED levels of public corruption, one might consider gold to indicate slow learners.

Translated Press Release and bullet points

It was done with the finesse of extracting a tooth with pliers and no nerve block. Nevertheless, I wholeheartedly agree.
