I hope he is still around. He has been a standard fixture for many years.

    sonoyta safety warning...

I know this is a tangled political web . . . Apparently I just don't get it . . . But you'd think if Nieto is so concerned with new commerce and across-the-borders opportunity, to the extent of staging dramatic "security" events in Penasco and the "capture" of El Chappo, why would this...

    another friggin dog food thread

Just goes as a reminder that in almost all things the biggest, showiest, convincing, and most heartwarming marketing is often a sham. As for dog food, there are even vets who buy into the Pedigree advertising. Whole Dog Journal is one source . . . they inspect and publish a list of "safe" and...

    Rocky Point Beaches

    Well, I know there's Mayan . . . then Miramar . . . then Dorada . . . then ruins with rusted rebar in a section that was once billed as North Beach . . . then Encanto . . .

North Beach? What is North Beach?

New Mexico hunters and trappers killing every bear and lion they can

Agree. In view of the unfortunate culling of natural predators, and as long as people put meat on their plates, hunting responsibly can actually be a way more humane alternative than buying your horrifically-factory-grown-and-slaughtered, neatly packaged protein of choice.

Advice needed for first time in PP

The parking lot immediately outside the Lighthouse Restaurant (on the right as you drive up the hill) is for the Lighthouse Restaurant. Past that -- as you reach the top of the hill . . . as far as you can drive without crashing the gate to the lighthouse, turn left into the correct parking lot...

New Mexico hunters and trappers killing every bear and lion they can

Wolves are amazing animals, and -- along with mountain lions and other animals that have been eradicated by hunters -- would help to bring nature back into balance. Cattle ranchers, however, have other plans, as well as hunters who often consider it their noble purpose to cleanse the resulting...

New Mexico hunters and trappers killing every bear and lion they can

So-called land management and the arguments on various sides is a very tangled web, but I must agree that it might be good to start with trophy hunting, which has no place in any ethical aspect of humanity.

    Chapo Guzman Caught!

. . . one of those big curved-blade battle knives used in the middle east long ago.

    Chapo Guzman Caught!

Dismantling all the cartels would be marvy, if it were possible by a wave of the wand. But it seems to me that carving away at Guzman's cartel (separately, or out of synch) will only serve to dissolve neutrality, and create a new war zone . . . like doing open heart surgery with a gurkha knife.

    Chapo Guzman Caught!

Agree. Just as with tribes and nations . . including our own . . . whomever takes the wheel can continue on course, or drive things off a cliff.

    Chapo Guzman Caught!

Yeah, but this isn't a street gang, where if the leader -- or even runner up -- disappears, the gang disintegrates. This is Sinoloa Cartel. I'd think that someone will step up.

    Chapo Guzman Caught!

I'm thinking that the second in command will simply take the wheel, with little fuss.

    Margarita recipe argument thread

Since you're assuming silver, I don't know. While an earlier poster mentioned (preferred?) Silver, Reposado is generally recommended for margaritas, as most people look for "smoother" Reposado rather than "bity" Silver. Depending on proportion of tequila to other components, what those other...

    Sonoyta Immigration Hours

Interesting. I never paid for an FMM before. To annually renew my visa in the past, I had to get an FMM at the border. Simply pulled over south of crossing and entered the office just to the right. Never any cost. But then, that was prior to recent new immigration laws.

    Safe in Puerto Penasco?

Agree. In almost 20 years of frequent (at least monthly) visits, the only mishap I had was an ASU kid on an ATV who fender-bended my car in a parking lot.

Road Construction and conditions in Penasco

Yeah, according to Jerry's recent post of this article (copied below) from Defrente, which basically -- I think -- means that the city is taking (State) matters into their own hands and repairing (filling potholes) the Caborca road themselves, due to the perilous conditions of that road: *...
