Stop all the BS people !! The federal government has stopped the project. A firm from Mexico City is re-a valuing the project. No more rocks at black mt. Concrete blocks not feasible. Cruise lines have other ports to worry about to Get excited for our completion. Look for private investments and work to start again NOT until the spring. This will get done , but not in 2015 or 2016.....take a breath now some of you guys won't see it in your lifetime.
You tell them Chi! Libel=slander=defamation=25 years after the fact,Betcha a fish dinner they start before spring.

Like so many other projects. Do you recall wanting to make Penasco an international destination by building a huge Monte Carlo style casino? I do. Do you recall the new upscale marina that was to be built on Sandy Beach by the resorts... that became a race track... that became just another uninteresting hole in the ground? I do. Do you recall how the Miramar was to host several new large resort projects and they kicked a valuable source of revenue -- RV snowbirds -- out for what is now empty lots and ugly unfinished concrete? I do. If, in fact, Penasco does manage to somehow become a cruise ship destination, I truly hope my ashes have already been spread properly over the Sea of Cortez.

Nothing personal, but chihuahuas are just annoying little yappy dogs that like to bite people on the ankles. Keep yapping if you must. :D

Well said Stuart. I have only been coming down for 10 years, so I have not seen nearly as much as most of you here.
But its easy to see that certain types of projects just don't make sense. PP is just a nice peaceful place by the sea. There are times through the year when there is a big event like Bike week, Circus Mexicus, Spring Break (which is not like it used to be) Easter Weekend.
I like it the way it is.
If it aint broke, don't fix it.....Right?

I'd agree. Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-development. Many of the Sandy Beach projects are gorgeous and add a lot of value to Penasco and I know a number of folks that own condos there and are perfectly happy. But I hate seeing these "dream" projects that go bust as so many throughout Mexico often do. I'd much rather see Penasco buckle down a bit and get its infrastructure modernized and expanded before chasing promises of big dollar projects that turn out to be pipe dreams.

Let's start small with sidewalks and underground water collection/retention. Maybe try (pick a street any street in RP) Calle 13. Then let's work our way up to legit stop signs and overall clean up and garbage removal. Now we're feeling ambitious...

I guess some folks here just like to continue to live in the past. I have been in pp for 18 yrs. Seen alot also go by the way side. Big money condos wrcked the Mirador strip. Where are they. I agree stop signs, pot holes, Mayan toll road to cut off 40 mile of trip, coastal hwy thru Penasco, and the home port need to be finished to make pp prosperous again. Like I said earlier quit the BS and get it done. St the rumor mill and stte FACTS. I did......fish dinner bet is on also playperro. Stuart I don't bite or bak up a dead tree either.

The homeport will not make Rocky Point prosperous again. It only exists because they threw a bone to connected local pols, real estate types and gangsters in exchange for supporting the ten times larger port project at Guaymas. What would make Rocky Point prosperous again is fee simple land titles and low taxes on real estate deals.Owning property in Mexico is pretty much a trap as things stand. The other thing that could help Sonora is to start paying living wages.Without a middle class nothing much works..

We're basically on the same page, friend. Get the current house in order -- for both the locals and tourists. Regain that friendly, comfortable, safe appeal for tourists and their families. Stop betting that the "one big new" project is going to change everything, it's not. Penasco truly has a lot more to offer - a great culture, great people and the perfect location to capitalize on all of it -- one of the most unique ecosystems in the world.

Although I haven't lived there for more than a week or so at a time, I've done it often for over 30 years and I find myself wanting to visit less and less these days. It's lost a lot of appeal for me. Graffiti everywhere, run down appearance, potholes that swallow my F-250 truck. In some ways, it's becoming more like Tijuana, which you couldn't drag me to these days. I don't see the same level of local pride that there used to be. People may have not had much, but what they did have they were proud of and took care of, it showed everywhere in the community.

I'm a lot different than your "average" tourist. I don't stay in a fancy beach condo; I don't seclude myself in a resort. We are out among the locals, visiting friends, out fishing, eating at our favorite places, being part of the community whenever possible. That's one of the reasons I feel comfortable making comments like this - I live it, I see it, I'm not some "ugly American" that expects things to be like they are here in the US. I expect them to be Mexico.

Eh, everything changes. We can only go forward. But, we can apply what we've learned along the way as we make that journey! :)

Well stated. I too don't live in a condo, I socialize with locals, eat all over town, and have more Mexicans friends then American ones, . Culture is everywhere abound , it's easy to not realize it is absent though.

We are working with a production company out of Hermosillo and your comment reminded me of the tourism campaign slogan which I really like...."Mexico, Live it to believe it"

I wonder if Wendy got the boot too? Oh well as she says " what goes up must come down!"

I laugh everytime I read that quote of Wendy's, it seems so out of place. I highly doubt that she would get the boot too as she must be related to Derek Winzer who is the head of Project Development for the Home Port.

Stuart, one big "project" that you may have mentioned was our World Class INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT with direct flights from Europe!

Funny, they are having a tough time getting direct flights from Phoenix. That "dream" has been going on now for about 10 years.

The real bummer about that is that the old airport was right in town which was great for General Aviation. You could land and be in your condo in 15 minutes... Now it's way outside of town to accommodate those direct flights from Europe.
