    Fiesta cruiser shipwrecked, tourist dies

At around 7pm on Tuesday, personnel from the marines, police, fire department and municipal Civil Protection were called on to rescue 44 tourists after the popular Fiesta Cruiser in Puerto Penasco lost all steering and was left adrift on the Sea of Cortez. Unconfirmed reports said that the...

Sagarpa, the mordelones responsible for harrassing Americans

Oh, I know you do. I wish you all the best in your efforts. Keep us informed, and if there's anything I can do to help, let me know. Gretchen and I are planning a trip to the border in the next few days to get a little more information.

    Santa Fe Senors!

I know, I know. You do have a point. I was just trying to say that they weren't as obnoxious as many others I've seen.

Sagarpa, the mordelones responsible for harrassing Americans

Hopefully they will capitulate and change the rules, Dan. I know that Fayuqueros that get caught bringing stuff in can pay stiff fines. They might have an easier time avoiding the income tax than they will with the importation taxes. Most still do it the old-fashioned way...sneaking the stuff...

    Santa Fe Senors!

Thank you Melissa, but many in this community would've done the same thing if they could, even some folks on this forum. Roberto, Lagrimas, Jim, Russ and many others have probably been called on to help tourists at one time or another. I've got some advantages and know how to use them, but I can...

    Santa Fe Senors!

You're absolutely right. These parents were very apologetic about their son and his behavior. As a 17-yr old he was held more responsible than the 15-yr old girl. To make matters worse, the girl was here without her parents. So these folks had to call her parents and tell them that their little...

    Santa Fe Senors!

I should say that the parents were incredibly patient and obviously good people. They were respectful in every aspect of their ordeal. Even after the kids were released, they expressed gratitude, not anger. They were very upset with their son for what he did and were not the least bit defensive...

    Santa Fe Senors!

There were four boisterous teenagers acting up in the store for who knows how long before the incident happened. Just from watching this kid in action, I can imagine that he managed to step on a few toes and piss off the manager and guards even prior to setting off the alarm. So of course when...

    Santa Fe Senors!

The true version of this story Rick B. brought an American couple to my office who were distraught because their teenage son and his 15-yr old girlfriend had been arrested the previous day for shoplifting. The man, a lawyer in the States, and his wife had been shopping in the Santa Fe market...

Sagarpa, the mordelones responsible for harrassing Americans

Dan, I followed the link and it's clear that this isn't the Mexican government charging you for copies of the laws in English. Click on the "About Us" and you'll see that this is a business. The sole owner of the business is a guy named Glenn Louis McBride Whithenshaw (sounds more American than...

What was happening at the Pithaya/Hotel Monday???

I have no information in particular about the Pithaya, but I know that flag well. It means the employees are on strike. Every Mexican employer's nightmare.

Encanto Condos Out By the Mayan Palace

My hubby, Francisco, is Mexican. But he reserves the right to remain invisible. It's part of the deal we made when we married...he won't try to keep me out of the center ring so long as I don't try to make him be part of the circus.

Dunno. I'll try to find out, though.

More about dog food and groceries at the border

This is precisely what my vet friend was telling me. He said he's working with his contacts at the governor's office to hopefully bring a change in this policy.

More about dog food and groceries at the border

Let me explain this again. Not every Mexican working the border works for the same government agency. The regular guys, the ones you've always dealt with, are working for the ADUANA. Their agency is an offshoot of HACIENDA, or SAT. They probably don't care about dog food, steaks or how many...

More about dog food and groceries at the border

Might have something to do with who is on duty when you cross. If the SAGARPA guys aren't there, I don't think the regular Aduana agents care about the food enforcement.

Im going nuts, need a break. Need to know what is going on down there.

The Cervantino Festival is on this weekend. Especially for a family with kids, this should be lots of fun, and there's no cost for admission. The Malecon will be hopping with cultural activities. The Buena Vibra Social Club is a circus orchestra, so the kids should like the show.
