I think the Urgent Care Clinic is open - and at Christmast time they were doing a cancer treatment, although they weren't officially open at that time. They are (or have) set up a big pharmacy. We got a tour of the place and it was extreme pleasant, clean and well equipped. Dr. Gongalez (sp?)...
Someone today said that things only go on during the evening - is this correct? I'm not a night owl - like wandering around in the warmth of day - will things be "happening" in the afternoons?
Does anyone have updated information on the opening of the Bodega Aurrera? I heard a March 4th opening but haven't come across anything official. And haven't driven by recently. I presume their grand opening will still be sometime in April?:woo:
Does anyone what what the schedule is for the Carnival (March 4-8) - what it costs, etc. Did anyone go last year? If so, impressions? Is it an easy walk up from Sandy Beach or is there good parking available?
Any suggestions - info - appreciated.
My first car was a blue Willy's Jeepster. It was really difficulty to get the top up so one time when the monsoon hit my cousin and I were driving with water sloushing around our feet. Plus my sister's goat loved riding in that car and she wouldn't get out so had lots of tours around Phoenix...
Has anyone seen anything new happening at the Bodega Aurrera? I would guess they would like to be open by March 4th for the Carnival as hopefully there will be a lot of tourist coming into town bringing pesos.
There is a used store that opened around Christmas time - she has great stuff and brings in things all the time. It is in the old port - as you are headed out of the port it will be on the left hand side near the part of the road that turns into a point (obviously I'm not good at directions).
On the old road - shortly after leaving Soyonita - there used to be a really bad curve with lots of crosses marking the spot. Since we started coming down again after a lot of years of not being here I can't find the spot - don't know if my mind is playing games or they improved the road and got...
Love the pictures. Also brought memories of eating at La Caverna when I was a kid. Bill was there as an adult but we never made it there together.
The first time I ever was down here was in 1948 (or maybe 1947) - we went out fishing. There had been a terrible storm and one of the shrimp boats...
Think a history thread is a great idea - I'm full of stories (of course that isn't all I'm full of according to my DH - lol - he also maintains I talk a lot). I love history and hearing other people's stories of places.
A ton of years ago my Dad used to catch Sea Trout. Took some home to a neighbor who had stomach cancer and it turned out it was one of the few things she could eat. I don't eat fish (always find too many bones no matter who deboned it!) so couldn't swear to it's taste - but my Dad liked it.
Yes, Chavela was her nickname - her name was Isabel and she hated it - loved Chavela. My Dad named his boat The Chavela - he wasn't good about taking care of it and everytime it went out everyone was on the alert to rescue it.
Luisa died at St. Joseph's in Phoenix some time before 1995 (can't remember the year). She was truly wonderful and did a lot to help Penasco. She was very active in promoting Penasco and working to do away with the need to stop for visas. We still miss her constantly. So many fantastic memories...
Is his Dad still living here? I had heard that both of them had left town. Went over to the old Villa Granada and it was being turned into a mission (boy did we have wonderful times sitting on the patio there drinking Coronas (or drinking coffee in the mornings) under the hugh bougainvilleas...
