I am probably more concerned about being taken advantage of from local RP law enforcement than any locals. That being said, don't do any thing there that you would not do here and you should be fine. Anything can happen anywhere, it should not prevent you from enjoying life.
Here are some suggestions:
1 The beach. Do a banana boat ride as well. You got to get it bouncing though to lose control and fall off for a better ride. Uh, make sure your trunks are tied on tight by the way.
2 Shore fish or for me it tends to be swim fishing. I tend to get my lures caught...
I thought about putting together a "novice" team for the event. My game plan would be to shadow the "pro team". Unfortunately, my crew would be fighting off the effects of a night of shenanigans so I doubt we could be up and ready to launch by the 6:00 am start time when the pros are leaving...
I appreciate all efforts as well. Since I have not made it down as much as I would have liked, I enjoy living vicariously through others. By the way, the pictures did not transfered over and the time of day is way off.

Sounded like an enjoyable trip. In a pinch the marine store across the street from La Curva has basic items such as hooks, sinkers, nets, 2 stroke oil, etc. I enjoy browsing there when I have run out of things to do.

Speaking of puffer fish. While working to catch bait on my last outing, my bait tank made a choking sound and stopped pumping water. I was afraid my pump went out. When I got home I decided to trace my water intake and found this in an elbow fitting before the pump.
