The Police in Sonoita are out of control!

Follow-up report, our 4 kids came down in 2 different cars and on different days, zero issues both directions, all did the 23mph crawl. The 3 younger ones went home today and just showed their passports without even a question about what they were bringing back. Again super easy.

The Police in Sonoita are out of control!

Our 3 - 20-26 year old kids came down, they got the red light, got a quick search including the engine compartment. Other than that easy peasy, did the 23 mph crawl and 3-5 count at the stop signs. I guess our family has the lucky look about us.

The Police in Sonoita are out of control!

Just lucky or didn't have a nice enough car to warrant trying to get $100-200 out of them.

Since Aug 2020, Mexico (at least Sonora with Penasco) has declared Tourism essential travel. We came down on the 16th, no issues just like it's been since Penasco opened back up for owners in late July/Aug. We've been down 12+ times since last summer. Lot's of people have been here the past 2...

For all the AZ colleges not having an official Spring Break, there were, many, many college aged people here this past weekend. We haven't gone into town at night yet, but JJ's in Cholla had 25-30 cars out front the 3 times I drove by there in the afternoon. Lots of cars and quads driving in...

    Leave your guns at home

Another option, The Why Not Store will store gun's and ammo. Apparently they do a good business on big weekends for that service.

The Police in Sonoita are out of control!

One solution is to get a duplicate drivers license and tell them you'll pay at the station, then hand them the extra license and drive to Penasco or head to the border. Remember to only keep $20-40 in your wallet with any other cash and cards hidden well. If pressed the Policia will take what...

    Pacifico bottles at modelorama?

I glad to hear there is some availability. Last week, I went to 3 different Modelorama's and there weren't any 12 oz bottles of Pacifico's in stock, I had to settle for Pacifico lite and Victoria. Since Oct it seems there has been a shortage of Pacifico around town, very, hit or miss on being...

    Sonoyta By Pass

After crawling thru Sonoyta, you have 3-4 park rangers on the your trek thru Organ Pipe and another 4-6 Sherriff's in and around Ajo and a handful in Gile Bend. So in all we have to deal with a 45+ mile long Speed trap zone. The difference is in Mexico your fine is $40-100, in the US it's $240.
