Kinda odd request here, but it's worth a read.

If you go on googlemaps.com type in "safe marina, puerto penasco" and you'll see where it is in general on their map. I don't really know how to give you directions, the harbor is pretty small around Rocky Point, if you drive by the commercial shrimp boats Safe Marina is about a block from there...

Kinda odd request here, but it's worth a read.

If all else fails try Safe Harbor marina. It's in a weird location at the marina, but they have about 6 rental units that hardly ever get used. The units themselves are not bad, full kitchens, bedroom, fold out sofa, A/C, garage, etc. Inexpensive too. Centrally located. If you want a place on...

Road trip from RP to Loretto via HWY 5 & HWY 1

I can guarantee you 100% you do not need a TIPS if you are traveling south from Rocky Point to Guaymas, taking the ferry across to Santa Rosalia, then traveling Baja. You only need a TIPS if you are traveling south of Guaymas on the mainland. If fact, I just got back 2 days ago traveling from...

Road trip from RP to Loretto via HWY 5 & HWY 1

Hi Earl, I did the trip last year twice. Went from TJ to Cabo but took Hwy 1 the entire way. There are two forums you can follow, the first one is forums.bajanomad.com (Baja Bound), they have a section on road contains in Baja. I don't have an exact website for the second, but google/web search...

Boat houses/covered storage in cholla bay?

For storage I'd highly recommend Ruben at Whale Hill. About $120/month for covered storage in a garage with working electrical and water hook-ups. He also has outdoor storage for about 1/3 price. Very secure, trustworthy, I've had my boat there the last few years. For any boat work I'd highly...

    Puerto Penasco to Hermosillo

Audsley nailed that one. Excellent advice.

    Puerto Penasco to Hermosillo

Took the grey route going down, and the southern half of the road was pretty bad, lots of pot holes. Quiet road, scenery and towns were OK but nothing spectacular, personally I wouldn't do it again on a motorbike. Came back on the blue route and road was excellent all the way. Personally I...

    Puerto Penasco to Hermosillo

Drove it a couple months ago on a motorbike, only bad part of the road was a few miles south of Rocky Point/Grand Mayan Hotel where you hit a few miles of potholes, otherwise its great road the rest of the way.

    SO LONG TO BE BACK

Would love to get out on your boat, Bill, and we'll have to go out for halibut again when you get down. I'll keep an eye out for a used motor for you here in Yuma, they're hard to come across but if I find something will let you know.

Santo Tomas Fish Report for September 10th

I was always told the easiest way to differentiate between a WSB and a totoaba is their caudal (rear) fin. The caudal fin on a WSB has a slight inward bend to it, the caudal fin on a totoaba is flat or has a slight outward bend. Google WSB or totoaba and look at their caudal fins and you'll see...

    Yuma to Guaymas

In the next few days wanted to do a Harley ride from Yuma to Guaymas and since I've never done this route was just looking for any feedback and suggestions. Referencing maps/Googlemaps was gonna take the toll highway from Yuma to Rocky Point, then head south via Hwy 37 and 3 to Bahia de Kino...

    Labor Day - Fishing Charter

That's awesome Miramar. It just blows me away they can take people out for around 6 hours at $35/person. For 10 people they make $350, about half goes for fuel, throw in all the extra expenses, doesn't leave much room for profit. Oh well, they're glad to make a couple bucks and people get to see...

    Labor Day - Fishing Charter

$65/person for 6 hours of fishing is an excellent price. That would barely cover my fuel costs. Gas prices at the pumps in RP are much higher than what we pay in AZ, and if you have to buy fuel at the harbor you'll pay pretty much double of AZ prices. And never mind the price of tackle, my...

    Why the dead fish?

We caught Dorado a couple weeks ago, Sunday and Monday trolled Caibo, Caballo, Salvo Pandejo but unfortunately didn't see one. Caught some rock bass and lots of triggers, but nothing big. Stopped into the 12-20 miles reefs on the way back to bottom fish, hoping to pull up half a dozen 100 lb...

    Why the dead fish?

Thx JJ, makes sense. I was wondering if those fish were dumped by the trawlers, I'd just never seen so many before.

    Why the dead fish?

Was fishing this last Sunday and Monday and came across fish jumping all over the place around the 10-20 mile markers, Salvo Pandejo, and the Caballo areas (see Youtube video : . Usually see fish jumping, but nothing like these two days. And when I was heading home on Monday afternoon (it was...
