    Trip report Aug 8, 2020

In the article, it says they were on "Calle Nueve" (or Novena hehehe) near "Calle 11". I can't find a "Calle 9" on any map, BUT there is a "Calle 8" which intersects "Calle 11" (aka Calle de las Rosas) Therefore I think it may have happened somewhere in the area of the red circle...

    Trip report Aug 8, 2020

I didn't use google translate, but I tested it just now and it is interesting. If you enter "calle nueve" in spanish it will correctly translate it to "9th street". BUT if you enter "9th street" in english it will incorrectly translate it to "novena calle" (instead of calle nueve) When the...

    Trip report Aug 8, 2020

Yes, NINE (9) is NUEVE, but NINTH (9th) is NOVENA/NOVENO. That's why I thought that if the gringos said they were on ninth street it may have been translated in the article to calle novena (instead of calle nueve)

    Trip report Aug 8, 2020

I assumed novena meant 9th street but I don't see that on google maps either LOL. 11th street shows as "Calle de la Rosas", just south of 12 st which makes sense (if you go to google street view the street signs definitely say "CALLE 11"). There is an 8th street that runs north-south and hits...

    Short cut in Sonoita

Brings back memories, Joe... got married in PP during that exact time period, August 25, 2012. Family was there from the 23rd to the 27th and I remember the flooding, thank God we made it there and back, it would have been an absolute nightmare had we not been able to make it through. And I...

    Worth a read

Stuart, unfortunately you are 100% correct. Your comment is a good corollary to previous advice I think you also gave about buying a house in Mexico, i.e. "never purchase property in Mexico unless you are immediately handed a title and keys" If you go into Mexico with eyes wide open it is much...

    Border Report (July 2, 2020)

Hit the border at Sonoyta at 11am, here are some quick notes: -very light traffic and essentially no lines at border in either direction -no US customs outgoing revision at all (i.e. no agent asking if you have over $10,000, arms/ammo, etc) -got green light but red went off immediately before...

Looks like lock down will continue for awhile

We’re in the same situation, its a big risk. We decided “F IT” and are leaving for PP in about half and hour, probably will hit Lukeville around 10am. We are fully aware of the possibility of getting turned around, but we’re hoping to slip through. I will try to post a “border report” shortly...

https://mexiconewsdaily.com/news/coronavirus/tourism-reopens-in-sinaloa/ The lockdown that began April 1 in Sinaloa is being lifted and tourists will once again be welcome in the state as of Wednesday. Governor Quirino Ordaz Coppel, accompanied by Durango Governor José Rosas Aispuro at an...

    Any changes at the border?

The green zone is where you can bring in a US-registered vehicle without the need to get additional paperwork. Once you get south of Guaymas/Empalme you must get an additional vehicle permit. The is a place in Empalme you can get an "Only Sonora" permit which allows you to go to Obregon &...

Looks like lock down will continue for awhile

Sorry I should have clarified. They CAN continue the health screening for a longer period. But they CANNOT continue screening to only let people in that have official reservations at hotels/condos; at some point they will have to let people in regardless of where they are staying or going.

Looks like lock down will continue for awhile

I don't think the sanitizing requirement can serve that purpose. By definition anyone who is renting under the table is already ignoring the laws anyway. It is working that way now because they are ONLY letting people in with a formal reservation. But once they stop screening that way (which...

Landshark you are most likely correct; things are bad enough in the USA, imagine in Mexico. There is no unemployment insurance, small business loans, etc; the social safety net is pretty much non-existent. And it is magnified all the more in a tourist town where the economy is not as diversified...

Looks like lock down will continue for awhile

This comment was posted under the video of Kiko's ABC15 interview. I figured I would re-post here since it seems like a legit 1st person account of entering RP this week: Buzzworm 6 hours ago Arrived in Penasco June 17. Usual quick search of vehicle by Mexican customs at the border. Did not...

    Rocky Point City Limits

At best its another example of a well-intentioned but ultimately mis-guided safety measure. At worst its an outright scam that will enrich a few "sanitization" companies while scores of other small businesses in RP are surely on the edge of financial ruin...

Here in Nogales they started the same type of revision and it initially caused multi-hour delays to get into Mexico; not sure what the current situation is since I haven't crossed for a few weeks. They have good intentions but assuming an infected person crosses the border, what possible good...

Looks like lock down will continue for awhile

    2) complicated question: The lockdown makes sense if the goal is to make RP "safe" internally, i.e. keep residents in a bubble where they can circulate with relatively low risk within city limits. But then what happens when the lockdown is lifted? Whether its in 2 weeks or 2 months, once it is...
