    Line cutters at the border

Coming back yesterday we had had a 55-minute wait at the border. About 20 minutes into it, a Porsche Audi with Az plates races past the cars behind us and pulls up alongside us. The two middle-aged occupants are smiling sweetly and indicating they'd like to cut in. Our driver angrily motions...

    Halibut this morning

I would have said those were flounder. Would I have been wrong?

    San Carlos

Lobos is definitely a better fishing option than RP. Depends on what else you want besides fishing and how much you want to spend. I understand dorado can be good out of San Carlos in October, but generally the warmer months are better fishing there and in Lobos. If you like bottom fishing...

    Beached whale

Odd time of year for finback whales to be this far north, isn't it?

Made It to The Big Leagues

Fine for days without wind and waves. Generally best for smaller bodies of water. I wouldn't take it far from shore in the ocean.

Baja Ferries ends Santa Rosalia-Guaymas trip

Same here. For years I thought of taking the ferry across and ending up in Loreto after a bus ride. Almost as sad as losing the train from Nogales to Mexico City that ended in the early 90s.

    Visas

I thought the visa requirement was based on distance of travel into Mexico. First 100 kilometers (62 miles) doesn't require a visa, and Rocky Point is a borderline case that Mexico allows.

    Visas

Not if you're just going to Rocky Point. If you're going must beyond Maya Palace I'd advise you to get a visa. Consequences of not doing so probably won't be serious, but that's just following the rules.

    On the Mexico Election

I consider Wall Street Journal to be the most trustworthy source in the mainstream media.

    Birds of Rocky Point

I wish you had included pictures. I know that's asking a lot, but I've tried to identify the birds I see in Puerto Lobos 95 miles south and I'm never certain on some of them. Frigatebirds, least terns, American oystercatchers and blue-footed boobies - I'm probably seeing them but can't put a...

    I copied this fr

The outfit that published the calendar has huge boats and offers overnights, so who knows where they were going. Maybe all the way to Angel Island. I could understand listing the same species under both Spanish and English names, but not different months for the same species depending on the...

    Pre-Semana Santa Getaway w/Newbs

Russ, was the Semana Santa crowd back to normal size this time? Or did you stay down too deep in your bunker to know?

Nice to read a trip report that isn't riddled with complaints and went well for newbies.

The Police in Sonoita are out of control!

Went down Friday through Lukeville, took the route across the big wash to Corregidora Street coming out to Highway 2 near the Oxxo and got through with no problems. Returned Monday taking the same route in reverse, again no problems. Crawled slowly under 25 mph the whole way. Saw one car...

    New Mexico border restriction?

Fabrizo's post on the long border thread deals directly with the question. Looks like no problem, assuming the Las Palomas people know. I have a trip coming up so this was important to me. Again, it's not the Americans you see in Rocky Point that tell you whether you have a problem getting...

    New Mexico border restriction?

What's happened in the last several days means less than what happens in the next few. This latest thing just went into effect. This weekend and next will be relevant. What happened before isn't.

    New Mexico border restriction?

Notice it's supposed to apply to the southern border too. Creative minds with no official standing theorize there's a Biden/AMLO plan to shut off Central American migration through Mexico under the pretense of protecting Mexico's population from Covid. This should stem the Central American...

    New Mexico border restriction?

Says here Mexico just announced that we can no longer cross the border except for essential travel. Do they mean it? And when will they implement it? https://www.elpasotimes.com/story/news/2021/03/18/mexico-announces-covid-border-restrictions-for-non-essential-travel/4752656001/

    Leave your guns at home

I can't imagine how anyone could forget having a loaded gun in their vehicle, but a round or two of ammunition is an easy mistake to make. There are so many nooks and crannies under the seats and in storage areas that you can miss one or two when unpacking after a hunt or a trap shoot. A...
