New Caborca Tourist Police

The tourist police are a new police unit that consists of 20 fully armed and trained officers who have different color uniforms and vehicles. There is at least one officer per vehicle who speaks English and all of the officers have received and will continue to receive English classes and training in the tourist operations and attractions in the county of Caborca, especially in the coastal areas. If a tourist is in a car accident or other problem, the normal police units will be first responders and they will call for the tourist police to assist. The tourist police will also provide tourist developments like Santo Tomas with extra patrols and security. The Caborca city government is putting a map and flyer together for Caborca and the surrounding area that shows tourist developments and attractions. The tourist police will carry these maps and will be able to assist tourists with directions, etc. The idea is to be ambassadors that provide both security and assistance for tourists. This is a very proactive step by the new mayor and his administration. They are very pro-business and very intent on improving local conditions and the economy and making Americans feel welcome and safe in the Caborca municipality.

Anyone with clout in Penasco should strongly encourage the local politicos to do the same thing, thereby mitigating much of the fears which the news has generated about Mexico.

HAPPY received this the other day. Is it all truth, or propaganda?

Dear Playa de Oro Rv Customers and Friends:

There has been quite a fuss about our little town lately. Negative media that has severely struck us with uncertainty and left us wondering if all that's being said about Rocky Point is true. We wanted to get the facts straight in order to give you the information from the people who actually live every day right here in our town. Don't they say "Truth shall set us free?" This town has never been the center of operations of any criminal organization, the last man to accomplish such endeavor was Al Capone, in the 1930s. Our government is fighting a war against drug lords, but the closest city truly involved in such unfortunate situation is over 400 miles away from Rocky Point. Our town sits conveniently unaffected by such events, and we'd like you to trust us we would never put profit before safety. Even though the situation in neighboring states is enough to raise awareness, Rocky Point has only had isolated incidents involving firearms in areas considered off limits from the tourist sector, completely unrelated to the paranoia inducing headlines you may gather from the media. A lot of this misinformation has been unfairly pushed on us, thus involving our town in a nonexistent drug war matter. The result of this controversial and truly destructive scandal has only caused us unnecessary burden and left many of you without any chance to have a decent vacation in Mexico, particularly in Rocky Point.

Despite all that has been said, our town is still considered the safest place to visit.

Our beautiful beaches, recreation centers and amenities are waiting for you. Give us a call or email us, we'll be glad to further inform you of what's truly going on in our town. We have prepared incentives to help you ease your travel budget, discounts and low prices, as well as coupons for every season of the year are issued every month. Quality of service has not diminished and security staff is better instructed to ensure your stay with us is a first class experience.

Thank you for reading us.

I didn't get it in my mail. Did he get it in the mail or did they hang it on his trailer?

HAPPY wanted me to pass this on in answer to your question Chari, but I thought he'd have your email? As usual, his most humble self.:lobster:

~ ~ ~ BTW, I got that yesterday via e-mail from PDO RV park, they love the GREAT HAPPY down there & want him back ~ ~ ~

I got it via email the other day.............I just assumed it was PDO's way of saying their business is down. And I can definitely vouch for that......I know that August is never a busy month, but when we were there that one weekend, we had the park to ourselves. Labor Day weekend did not have even close to the turnout I expected either. They're getting desparate for business maybe????????

I got the same e-mail from PDO and agree with Julie, the park has been at its lowest in occupancy, however during the month of August it has been always low, but not as bad, it is a mix of economy, paranoia and bad publicity in the USA generalizing Mexico in the violence taking place hundreds of miles away from RP!!

To me, it's funny how they can completely ignore the Chief of Police getting shot, the killing in the Red Cross, the guy getting offed at the marina, the guys being gunned down on the highway, and oh, a few others I know I'm forgetting. None of that was 400 miles away - it was all in Penasco and it was all drug cartel related.

Seems to me PDO has a very convenient memory.

Shhhhh! They're tourists. If we don't tell them,. they'll never know...

Come on now, Stuart, most people on this forum are far from being just tourists and still frequent Penasco regularly without too much worries.:notme:

It seems everyone is blaming the drugs for the lack of tourists. Well yes that has to have some effect. I strongly believe the majority of the problem comes from the lack of money on the part of the American economy. So many un or under employed, so many worrying about losing their jobs and so many that can not even afford to make a house payment, no less going on vacation Us older folks that have lost so much in the last two years are getting worried about our future and the future of the American dollar. I know I for one I am worried because I have lost well over 1.5 million in money and value in the last 3 years. That really hurts our future living plans. We still travel to RP as it is still within our budget. I only hope we will survive this recession and the dollar again becomes stable.
I am not complaining or whining I am just stating the facts of todays life in tough times.

ouch 1.5 is a big number.....I've been talking with people looking to rent my house in tucson the last 2 weeks and the stories of people falling from upper middle class to one step above a Bordons court Trailer park on South Fourth are really heart breaking...I mean i want to rent my house but half the time i end up suggesting they get the hell out of Arizona
