Looks like lock down will continue for awhile

Our Mayor has said that if new cases start to develop, and/or citizens do not follow the sanitary protocols/rules, the phases to reopen will be cancelled and everyone will have to stay home.

Would be nice if the laws, regulations were enforced equally across the board. They are not. Still lots of people walking the streets with no mask but usually a filthy rag and white bucket.

Decided to try the new DQ in the hope that they would offer MMMMM butterscotch. Nope, no hay. But while in line waiting at the back of the building a guy with a filthy rag and no mask jumped up and started shouting at me, waving the rag. I gave him my best imitation German in reply and tried to ignore him. He kept it up even after I had my purchase and had paid, giving me the Mexican hand sign for 'Cheapy" as i drove away. Employees were watching the drama but said nothing. I won't go back.
Stopped at Mini Ley yesterday, came out and yes there was a fellow, sin mask, rub rub rubbing a spot on the windshield. I sensed stopping there was a mistake but they do a good job on entry and exit at the door. I have given money to an unsolicited car washer one time in 15 years. Recalling this as the location of the last uninvited, infected visitor I wanted out of there fast. Guy kept the filthy rag rubbing, rubbing same spot. Wondering if this was the partner of the guy who was diagnosed, I babbled in my best psudo German and he started shouting about me being a rich America. Feeling intimidated I reached into the change cup grabbed what amounted to 50 pesos and backed out while he shouted at me. A small group had assembled and were watching. OK Mini Ley goes off the list. Why does the management permit this? I fully admire folks trying to make a living but they do not get to set the rules. Is there a union protecting these people. None that I have seen display the so called required vendor card. but according to the mayor these workers can cause the cancellation of the reopening.

I made a choice to live here some18 years ago and I have to say I am regretting my selection. Living in a resort town with no apparent equality. If I only came to party fine.

He (the Mayor) also emphasized that he will be intolerant to anyone that exposes the health of the citizens of Puerto Peñasco! A mask is required in public, so if you want to go out - you MUST wear a mask. If not, you will need to stay home.

I had a similar experience at Rocky Point Imports a couple of weeks ago. When I pulled in an aggressive guy wanted to wash my clean truck. I said don’t touch it and made some very clear hand gestures and probably said no lavor or similar. When I came out he had not washed the truck but he started yelling as I pulled out, and he tried to follow or stop me. I wasn’t having any of it.

I'd want to kill myself after a few weeks of that. I usually reach in the cup holder where I have collected years worth of pesos and just dish out a bunch of random .2 pesos which equates to .20 or something and be done with them. They always make the window worse than it was and I HATE people touching my truck. Apparently you have to pay for PROTECTION now when you park in the Malecon. Heyyyy amigo, yo miro la troka para ti pues.... that will be $5! Like huh????? !!!!! This is public parking. I had a guy get pissed that I parked in front of the Boo Bar and didn't want to pay the "protection" fee and he threatened or straight told me that next time my LED lights would be gone when I come back. I said DALE PUES!!! I give out enough money and tip 20% everywhere in Penasco. The people that are disrecpectful about it, F YOU! What's that saying???? BEGGARS CAN'T BE CHOOSEY! DON'T BITE THE HAND THAT FEEDS YOU.... Pick one my amigo.

I'm sure we have all had people doing this to us, worse one I ever had was

I've had my windshield washed waiting at the light by Rosy's restaurant (not by choice) only to have the guy's
buddy try pulling my laptop bag off of my rear seat.

Yes I had my back windows 1/2 way down. I saw the guys arm in my mirror and promptly started driving through the
light that was still red, dragging the guy with his arm still in my car. I thwarted that almost robbery.

I love going out to eat, but going to places like Taco's Brissa, Pollo Lucas and the Malecon are tough to do because of all the
beggar/car wash people who swarm you when you pull up. Really don't like what they call us when I tell them no.

Many times I will pay them 10-20 pesos just to leave my car alone, I don't like waiting to cross into the US in Sonoyta.
It usually takes $10 worth of donations to get thru that line of window washers, tortilla ladies, kid's and beggars.

I tip people who do things for us like bagger's at stores, gas station attendant's, guards at stores that will load your car
if I see a tip jar at places I frequent I always put some peso's in. Always tip in restaurants 15-20%.
Even the ragged looking people I see at RR crossings will get some $ and a water bottle.

I imagine when things open up (hopefully) in a few weeks they will be out en-mass to make up for 3 months
without the RICH Americans to keep them supplemented.

Had the same exact thing happen to me back in maybe 14 or 15... Wrecked at the reef. Pry 9pm at night came rolling in with my windows down and some guy standing with all the cabbies was like trying to talk to me like we knew each other, wasn't paying attention and all of a sudden my music shuts off and something "drops" inside my truck. I immediately look over and another one of the guys is a quarter of the way inside my window, backing out hastily. I was like WHAT THE F###CK?! Got so pissed I started yelling at these fools so loud... Went into Wrecked and know many people that worked there, told every single one of them what just happened and they went out there with the cops. I'm guessing it's a problem there because over the years now the cabbies have to wait outside of wrecked's property... One guy distracts you talking to you, while the other guy goes in from the other side open window, grabs whatever is in hands reach.

The only reason these CULEROS didn't get my phone is because back then I didn't have blu-tooth and the RCA wire for the stereo system was plugged into the phone. He had it in his hands and went to pull away and the cord ripped it out of his hands, stopping the music, making me realize OOOOOOOOOOOOO HELLLLLLLLLLLLL NAH!!!! I will go to jail on PRINCIPLE! IT's the PRINCIPALITY of the whole situation SMOKEYYYYYYY!!! (Friday reference) (Big Worm).

Just saw a video on FB of the sanitary check point. So basically, you have to exit your vehicle and walk through?! Scratch that estimated 1 hour wait... 4th of July will be a 3 hour wait to get into town after waiting an hour at the border... damn. This is getting more dreary.

This is a challenging time and nobody knows exactly what to do. I will tell you we feel pretty safe here because of the way the lockdown is being handled from the disease point of view not tourism point of view, this coming from a guy who makes a living on tourism. We have probably the strictest lockdown anywhere. For review.....as of right now if Naomi wants to ride with me she has to take the back seat, if we go to the store it is only 1 person per cart so she stays home, mask are mandatory once you leave your property if you go to a store without a mask you are sol(not the beer), until just a few days ago the beer supply has dried up completely as beer production was deemed not essential in March so all deliveries stopped in the country, what was on the shelf could be sold from 8 am to 6 pm and when it was gone it was gone.....I haven't had a beer in 2 weeks and am losing some weight so I think I will continue in this path...the point being it has been shall we say inconvenient..... but are we doing it? Yes because we wanted to quarantine here and if we left town for any reason we would have no way of getting back until right now. Following the lead of people who know more than me is easy and I don't think they are part of a larger conspiracy to take control of our lives.

Time will pass and this will be behind us, maybe I will have work next year, maybe not. For now we are happy - fed - virus free and longing for the beach when the feds finally open it. We will grab our bottle of wine and a few steaks and our beach chairs and enjoy a sunset together somewhere on Cholla Bay. AJUA....life is good

The Covid-19 cases in Mexico are really ramping up this week. I saw where AZ was supposed to peak June 20th.
We'll see how this pans out for AZ and Mexico.
If Mexico goes like Italy and other Euro countries it could be awhile before this peaks and passes.

The charts included are showing the timeline.
Notice how long Italy took to finally ramp down, Mexico will probably follow a a path similar to that.

I am Really Wanting them to open June 16th. Mexico needs to get their people out and back to work.
Also, I and many others need to see the Ocean around Penasco and Cholla Bay.

Now the big question, I owned in Cholla for years and visit Cholla 6-8 weeks per year.
Will I be allowed to get thru the screening with any of the following CFE bill, property tax statement, home insurance policy,
auto insurance policy? I Don't have a perm res card yet. Thoughts? Thx
no, only people that are permanent residence and we’re not able to get back in before they closed everything down. You will be allowed June 16 (hopefully) to enter as a tourist.

yep and nothing is guaranteed, the folks coming home right now have not been under the same kind of lockdown as we have so there may be some that won't take it as seriously...time will tell, they have to be home by the 5th and if the town is still clean on the 15th they will open for tourist on the 16th

Here in Nogales they started the same type of revision and it initially caused multi-hour delays to get into Mexico; not sure what the current situation is since I haven't crossed for a few weeks. They have good intentions but assuming an infected person crosses the border, what possible good does this spraydown do? The danger is from the virus being INSIDE OF YOU and spreading out to the world when you breath, cough or sneeze. What is this spray supposed to accomplish?
spray.JPG
Then there is the outright ludicrous:
scrub.JPG
I am all for reasonable measures, but what possible benefit is gained by scrubbing down pavement? I want to give Mexico the benefit of the doubt, but some of these measures were clearly not thought through clearly.
Now I hear about the thermal cameras and my head starts to shake. Googling for about 10 seconds shows how limited they are as a means of catching infected people. Also, it is not clear they are intended for outdoor use. How will they hold up in the 110 degree summer heat at an outdoor checkpoint?
I think you are right Joe, multi-hour waits may be the normal in the short-term to get into PP...

As of May 28th (I wonder if we will move forward on June 1st now???) I read the we were at 6 this week. We think its way higher.
Apart from one state, all of Mexico is painted red on new ‘stoplight’ map

Only in Zacatecas will nonessential activities be permitted to resume on Monday

Every state except Zacatecas has been allocated a “red light” on the federal government’s stoplight system to determine which coronavirus restrictions can be lifted and where, meaning that nonessential activities will not recommence on Monday in the vast majority of the country.

Deputy Health Minister Hugo López-Gatell presented a map at Friday morning’s presidential press conference that showed that the risk of Covid-19 infection has been deemed to be at the maximum level in 31 of Mexico’s 32 federal entities.

Zacatecas, which currently has 59 active Covid-19 cases, is considered a high risk “orange light” state.

“This evaluation was made on May 28, it’s the most up-to-date and it is what will enter into force on Monday, June 1,” López-Gatell said.

“At the end of the national social distancing initiative, this is how the country is. But, and we’ve said it before, the health safety measures don’t end,” he said, explaining that it will now be the responsibility of state governments to implement restrictions in accordance with the color they are allocated on the stoplight system

Today’s map paints a much different picture than the first such map, issued on May 13 when the stoplight system was announced. At the time, fewer than a dozen states were given a red light.

The deputy minister said that the stoplight map will be updated on a weekly basis and that federal authorities will subsequently announce the color that corresponds to each state and which activities can resume in each one.

States will be allocated a red, orange, yellow or green light depending on the number of active and new coronavirus cases they have, their hospital admission trends and their hospital occupancy levels.

In “red” states, only essential economic activities will be permitted including the newly-designated sectors of construction, mining and automotive.

Other sectors will be permitted to resume operations once the stoplight switches to orange but with a reduced capacity and/or workforce and with restrictions in place to prevent the spread of Covid-19. People considered to be particularly vulnerable to Covid-19 due to their age or existing health conditions will be permitted to return to work albeit with special protocols in place.

Public spaces will also be reopened during the orange light phase but at a reduced capacity.

Businesses will be able to increase their workforces and capacity once their state has been allocated a yellow light and there will be fewer restrictions in open-air public spaces. However, stricter restrictions will remain in force in indoor spaces such as restaurants, cinemas and theaters.

Once a state is given a green light, students will return to school and other educational institutions and all remaining restrictions on economic and everyday activities will be lifted.

López-Gatell said that Cancún, and the entire state of Quintana Roo, is close to being allocated a yellow light, which corresponds to the “medium risk” level.

“Cancún … is one of the cities that is closest to becoming a medium risk area … and it’s very probable that in the next few days, maybe a week, we will be able to announce that [its risk level] has been lowered,” he said.
That would pave the way for the reopening of Quintana Roo’s tourism sector, which has been hit hard by the coronavirus crisis.

The sector has launched a new tourism campaign to attract visitors to the Caribbean coast state after an expected reopening on June 8.

The World Travel and Tourism Council announced this week that the Mexican Caribbean will be the first destination in the Americas to receive a newly created “Safe Travels” global safety and hygiene certification, backed by the United Nations World Tourism Organization and more than 200 CEOs in the tourism sector.

I've read it's a zinc based anti bacterial, also saw a FB post saying it's a silver based solution.
Pinto Point Rick may chime in with some info as he went thru the tent a few weeks ago.

It seems like we don;t know for 100% sure what the spray solution is. Will any of you not come to Penasco based on not knowing what you're getting sprayed with?

I worked in a laboratory for 35 years and also was a firefighter for awhile. Their benign disinfectant spray is far down on my list of worries. I’ll hold my breath as I walk through.

Quaternary Ammonium is what they are spraying, hold your breath close your eyes and walk through. Everybody that has come through says it is easy and not a big deal and there have been several. Guys quit guessing about stuff, read or follow www.rockypoint360.com they are on the web and on facebook, they have the most up to date translated information out there. On their facebook page Rocky Point Times has been doing an excellent job of getting up to date material out there too but only on facebook and I know some of you won't go to facebook. These two sources are the best way to stay up to date with the ever changing news here.
