I Almost Got Into A Fight Last Night!

So here's a new one. I went to a charity gala last night. I was talking with a co-worker's husband and my co-worker mentioned to her husband how much I love to go to RP. He said, "You still go there?" and I said, "Of course I do, no reason not to." I figured I was going to get the standard Mexico is violent response, but he replied, "I stopped going there after they shot and killed the Mayor." I said, "WHAT??????" He swore to me that he knew for a fact that the Mayor was shot and killed last year. I told him that it wasn't true and it was obviously just a rumor and he argued with me the he knew it for a fact. I said, "How do you know it really happened, did you go to his funeral?" Blah, blah, blah, it went on and on about how "his friend" knows someone who told him, blah, blah, blah.

We were at Casino Arizona Talking Stick, so I told him that even though I hate gambling, I'd go to the cash machine right then and there and take out whatever my cash limit for the day was and make the best bet that anyone in the entire casino was going to make EVER and bet him that he was WRONG. He wouldn't take the bet.

You just can't make this stuff up!

Lovin it in RP!
Jackasses are jackasses thats all there is to it, I tell people who I come across "if you want to tell me a negative about travel in Mexico" I will listen as long as they will discuss with me my 100 positive (reasons) to one negative (to be here)

"Travel in Mexico" is a broad brush. Hey many places in Mexico are dangerous! ROCKY POINT IS A SAFE DESTINATION as we on the forum know.
Most of the gringos who trash Rocky Point have never been there or never have been out of their comfort zone of the USA. Just humor them and them you love danger. We don't need stupid there anyway do we?

We took our brother-in-law and his wife from New York to Penasco this weekend. They were told by people in Arizona not to go and how dangerous it is. As we were sitting on the beach, not seeing anyone for miles in either directions, I asked them if they were afraid. They just laughed

It is a slow process for the media to self-incriminate for its ongoing deceptiveness -- in many arenas. And the damage takes its toll in the process. I continue to watch for the eventual return of crowds, which will signal that word-of-mouth prevailed, and people are wising up.

Intelligent people get tire of being lied to. You know you do have a life to lead. Not follow!

That's exactly how I ended the conversation. I told him we didn't need people like him there anyway. It was late, and I'd had a couple of drinks and after they left, my other co-workers told me that I "got all Jersey on him"! You can take the girl outta jersey, but . . . well you know the rest. My only regret was that he didn't take the bet - I would've won $900! LOL

Sounds like he may have confused it with the police chief shooting a while ago. He needs to get his facts straight.

I'll bet that is what he was referring to. I remember the police chief shooting. Although it would be a frightening experience to be anywhere near a "gun battle" while in mexico, it would not stop me from returning to Rocky Point.

I thought the same thing, but I didn't want to bring it up and add fuel to his fire. Besides, that incident was in June, 2010 - no reason to bring up the past. There's been hundreds, if not thousands of shootings in Phoenix since then.
