Gillespies old road crosses the Caborca highway on its way to Estero La Pinta. Turnoff is a few miles past the Mayan going south on the CAborca highway. I've been up to the mine numerous times in the past. First you pass Gillespies old orange orchard site where he had a well that you will see the remenants of. Last attempt, about say 5 years back I was turned back by the military. Have not had a 4x4 since so have not tried the trip to the mine, but a friend told me he was just up there to the mine so I guess the road goes that far at least. Years back I ran across a 4WD club motoring down from Sonita.

I have some good photos from up there but of course I can't load them !

Back before Lobo del Mar headed to Hawaii Capt'n Bart told us about the family's annual New Year's Day trip up to Gillespie's orchard and mine. He said there was a hot spring up there they would sit in and recover from the previous night's festivities. Sounded like a really cool trip. It's high up on my list of things I gotta do!

Landshark, the only plans I've heard are the Mayan building a road from the airport to Sonoyta, but I don't know how that's going
