With Verizon's system, you're probably picking up the tower from the US side of the border. I can occasionally get Telcel coverage on the US side 7-8 miles from the border. Someone I know also got the add-on with Verizon...he has one of those "world phone" Crackberry's....and it does not work...

Is that the little restaurant on the road thru Cholla before you got to JJ's (had a couple tables outside)???....more of a coffee/breakfast/lunch place?

There is a menu choice in the MagicJack program that sets it to use your headphone/speaker/mic on laptop or an actual phone plugged into the MagicJack.

There was nothing shown on the advertising that Telmex has for their dsl concerning bandwidth...I believe it's a straight 1 mbps line for the cheapest plan, with no max monthly usage. I've been tapping my neighbor's dsl thru wifi, and have had no problems with MagicJack.

Yes you can use a headphone thru your laptop....I prefer to hook up a phone to the magicjack and even dial thru it (the phone).

Ahem....I agree....2 pesos/minute is around 16 cents per minute at current exchange rates....those pesky decimal places get you every time....:):-o

I used Skype for a couple of years (still have some money on my account), but I have to disagree on the clarity of the calls....MagicJack beats Skype. Plus, I hook up a regular phone to the MagicJack and use that. Don't know if Skype has graduated from the "special" phones you needed if you...

"not too expensive" is a relative term....:-P For local calling in Penasco, I'll stick with the Amigo/Telcel

The $5 add on with AT&T (which I have) reduces your roaming charges...somewhere around 10 cents per minute, and also your text messaging. It helps, but nothing to jump up and down about. Not sure about the rate someone else quoted for calling to Mexico from the US, but that is probably calling...

My apologies Kenny...ok, so it wasn't 50 years... maybe 30???:-D Yeah...that old age is starting to kick in....remembering the "good old days" :-D More of a fatherly instinct instead of damsel in distress....but if there is one in her 40's...might go for that!!!

    More killing in Rocky Point???

Yeah...we all have fond memories.....even though my daughter was very young, she still remembers sitting on my lap late in the evening on the beach watching the stars, trying to figure out which was the north star (I could never get that straight)...listening to the sea lion that had taken up...

    More killing in Rocky Point???

I have never specifically accused Rosy of being part of the "rah-rah crowd"....I agree with many of her posts....but not necessarily all. There have been posts by some that are "rah-rah"....and having been around enough years (I'm getting into the "old fart" range....no cracks, Kenny)....i tend...

TMobile also works....you need a GSM phone. With the roaming charges, I use my ATT phone very rarely. I have an unlocked gsm phone and bought a Telcel sim chip (about $18) and then I get the Amigo cards (100 peso increments). The main Telcel office is on Benito Juarez just past the RR...
