Thanks for the rundown. By the time we read or hear about those things, they're usually past.

Is anyone from the PHX area traveling to Rocky Point Thursday morning?

Although . . . . . . other of our friends who live in west Phoenix take the Buckeye route, and we meet up in Gila Bend -- another option.

Is anyone from the PHX area traveling to Rocky Point Thursday morning?

Yes -- the south-facing parking lot section or thereabouts is convenient to heading out on 248.

Is anyone from the PHX area traveling to Rocky Point Thursday morning?

We are 95% sure we'll head there on Thursday morning around 10:00 from East Valley. A popular meet-up point for our caravans is Walgreens in Maricopa. If none of your comrades can help, send me a note . . .

    Portuguese Man-Of-War

Meanwhile it can help to cover as much exposed skin as possible with light clothing like scrubs during jellyfish season. I've heard, too, that there is a jellyfish toxin inhibitor jell that helps to block toxins from passing through the skin. Don't know about that first-hand, though.

Anyone have an update on the Miramar, Encanto & Mayan roads?

Was out that way through yesterday. The Miramar / Dorada road is open. As mentioned earlier, they ran pipes under the road in spots to divert the flow and preserve the road.

It's Lookin' Like a Good Weekend for RP!

Oh, now, that's funny. When we were heading down last Thursday, they similarly gave us a flippant, "Have any money with you?" We told them that of course we had money . . . then recited our usual . . . but no ammo, $10,000 etc. (Almost tempted to say, "$9,999.99 in change.)

    Gyros at El Greco's..?

Then on the other hand, who needs meat? It doesnt get much better than rice, beans, tortillas, guac and pico with margaritas at Del Capitan. (I specify Del Capitan because of the quality of margaritas and the view.)

Aerial photos of flood waters backing up at the East end of Playa Encanto Encanto

. . . Although please do not confuse that to mean "all roads." The Caborca Road -- at least as far east as Mayan -- is clear. And beach-access roads such as those to Miramar / Dorada are clear as well.

Is it safe to visit Rocky Point?

I am among those who have been going for decades with family and friends. I visit almost twice a month. No problems. Only fun. Oh . . . except one time some years back when a gringo yahoo backed into me in a parking lot. Have fun on your trip. (My next trip is planned for that day as well --...

    Wash in Sonoyta

Sure would appreciate updates as they become available, since I'm postponing my trip until the Sonoyta detour stops disintegrating and the road to Caborca is passable.

    Weather

Today at 1:45 serious washes covered the Coborca road west of Mayan Palace. At that point they were able to be forded by SUVs (a little above hubcab-high water line) -- not cars -- but if more rain comes, that could be another story.

    Sonoyta Bridge?

Wonderful. Oh, but now there's an end-of-the-world-looking storm coming into Penasco. So will hunker down for now, and hope for continued access tomorrow.

    Sonoyta Bridge?

Appreciate and look forward to all the updates. Meanwhile I will resort to my emergency plan -- Margaritas at Del Capitan.

    Weather

One easty-to-spot place is the Why Not Travel Store in Why right at the junction (west side of 85). They're open until 10:00.

Sonoyta - Update with Issue on 9/4?

That has been discussed under another topic over the last days, and your link pretty much tells what has been shared. Went through Sonoyta yesterday and all looked secure. (Military checkpoint on south end of town, and another at north end of Penasco.)

    Sonoyta Bridge?

Came down yesterday, Miakko. Dry roads -- Even at the Sonyta bridge ("ford"). A new military checkpoint on the south end, enroute to Penasco, and then the usual checkpoint north of Penasco at the intersection. All is well.
