Have a Western Tanager recovering on our deck - dazed from flying into the window. Read where they were suppose to be breeding in the forests in the North. Have noticed a flock of them on walks recently.
Seems like in the early days we only saw "sea" birds and "desert" birds - i.e. sea gulls...
At one point Roberto & Luisa Fleisher managed the hotel - before/while they were building the Villa Granada. Lately have stopped by to show it to some family/friends and the owner was really nice about letting us look around. I think he said the rooms go for about $35 a night, if I remember...
Last weekend we started to go to Mi Familia to try it out (6 of us) - the place was empty (Mare Blu had diners) - one look at the menu and we decided to go else where. The prices appeared to be higher then Arizona prices!
Most people we asked about Mi Familia had commented, "I hear the food is...
Our son & his family arrived Friday - had been 20+ years since they had last been here. While wandering the malecon he made the observation: So much has changed and yet it is still the same old Penasco - Everyone has a smile for you and are happy to take the time to talk. (I think he ended up...
Our son, daughter-in-law, granddaughter & grandson are headed down today (Friday) - grandson graduated yesterday from ASU (he put himself through school playing poker - plays a lot of charity tournaments and they love him as he usually brings in a lot of money for them) - anyway, did you rent...
For those of you considering whether to come down or not - the weather is perfect this morning. Calm sea, blue sky, warm - the type of day you want to wrap your arms around.
Sitting on the terrace sipping tea this morning while our El Gato watched a little fishing boat anchored right off...
My cousin was stot in her garage in an upscale Atlanta neighborhood. People have been shot in home invasions in upscale Scottsdale. People think with emotions and not logic. And there is very little that one can say to change their opinions once they have been embedded. When we first moved to AZ...
You can use www.createspace.com to publish the cook book - then they only print/charge when a copy is bought - won't make a lot of money however, but comes out with a very finished product - depending what you put into it of course GIGO.
A border patrol guy (based in Texas & apparently once in the Tucson area) advised our Granddaughter not to come to Rocky Point as it was so close to Tucson that it was dangerous! He advised her to check out a map so she could see how close they were. I guess he is looking for job security - the...
Mayan Palace, as far as I know, does have a brunch. We were out there not too long ago - didn't eat this time but were shown the buffet and it was pretty extensive. Lovely setting. Know Mare Blu's food is good, although haven't tried their brunch.
Billy Ray Chitwood has a new book published - The Cracked Mirror, Reflections of an Appalacian Son - the story starts in Tennessee and ends up in Penasco. A mix of fact and fiction that starts at the time of the Great Depression.
If any one is interested it can be bought on his web page...
Don't miss the fun of licking a large Thrifty ice cream cone and strolling along the Malecon in the old port. It is one of the places we take all our family and friends and they have always loved it. Looking over the side at the "beach???" at the old port you can see how Rocky Point got it's name :)
A shooting recently occured about a mile from our granddaughter's home in Phoenix - yet they are concerned about driving down here - go figure. And she knows that we make the trip back and forth across the border without any concerns. Yet she reads the newspaper and listens to the TV news and...
