Independence Day - dias y seis de Septiembre

Does anyone know what/when events are planned for Independence Day? Last time out noticed the flags being put up on the streets - looked really nice. Have kids coming in and I'm sure they would enjoy going to some of the celebrations. Guessing there will be a lot of fireworks.

    Comming back finaly

DH would normally have me out walking about 4pm - the HOTTEST time of the day, naturally. Doable but not much fun. Early morning and eary evening beautiful for beach walking (DH is either a 'mad dog' or an 'Englishman' and some days I'm not sure which :) Even in July we slept with the windows...

    Comming back finaly

We've gotten so bad that we haven't headed north to the border since last winter! And then if was to Ajo and back. Just can't give up waking up to the Sea of Cortez. Getting old does have some benefits :)

Word of Caution to ATV Riders***

While walking on the beach we occasional see people there - or a cleaning crew. Not many of the units appear to be completed. It looks like it would be a beautiful place. Feel so sorry for those who purchased condos there - has to be difficult living in a place with cranes still towering in...

Casey anthony moving to mexico on the sea of cortez ???

Understand she is on probation for a year for stealing from her friend's checking acount (gets more of a sentence for that then killing her child!) and has to stay in FL - unless, of course, they are soooo glad to get rid of her. But can you imagine the party girl living in a remote location, no...

    Old Pictures of Penasco

Thanks for the site -enjoyed them (looked like my parent's old 'woody' in one:) - Also, on the stairs by the Old Playa Hermosa does anyone (Ladyjeeper) remember the mark that showed how high the tide got one time - I believe in a storm - all the way up to the parking area I believe.

    Trip Report

Thanks for the directions - will track it down. We recently got steaks at Super Ley which were very good. DSIL grilled them to perfection. Know he will like trying this place. Glad you had a good time and are coming back. Those of us who love Penasco love the warts and all. Mainly, the people...

Ideas for getting from PP to Phx 9/29?

She is checking. On some it looks like she shuttles to the border - gets out and walks across with her suitcases, etc., and then picks up another van. Didn't indicate how long a wait it was for the new van to arrive. Someone told her that unless you spoke Spanish it was almost impossible - not...

Ideas for getting from PP to Phx 9/29?

Our DD needs to get from Penasco to Phoenix the morning of Sept. 29. Both shuttle services have indicated they don't have anything going on that date - and other shuttle services she has tried to contact are apparently out of business. She could possibly leave the late afternoon before (trying...

Salt to Fresh water 1964 video awesome!

Would you please ask him if he knew a Bob and Chavela Gehrandt? If he was ever at the Playa Hermosa (Hector's) he probably did. One time they all had a major Halloween Party at Hector's and everyone dressed up. My Dad and his best friend dressed up as twin women - REALLY large women as both were...

Salt to Fresh water 1964 video awesome!

I'm guessing it is the old Playa Hermosa. Louisa and Roberto had a restaurant at the time - also the scene on the patio was filmed there - as well as the walk up the stairs from the beach. I think they probably just 'spiffed' it up for the filming. If I got a good look might recognize some of...

Salt to Fresh water 1964 video awesome!

Thank you - brought back so many memories: recognize some of the faces/names! And the old stairs leading from the beach to the Old Playa Hermosa. the middle section goes slowly as they get into desalinization - but at the end back to an old restaurant - does any one recognize it? I would have...

    Bringing food INTO Mexico

A friend of ours was recently stopped - given a warning about what he was bringing in but allowed on. He was told no milk, eggs, veggies, meat, poultry - basically nothing that you could actually buy down here. I've heard that store packaged meats/poultry can be brought in but that is just...

    Immigration changes??

Roberto, this is one web site that I found that appeared to have the most information. Has anyone recently renewed their old FM2 - now the Inmigrante - Rentiste. On the point system it almost sounds that if one is retired here - receiving Social Securty from the USA they can skip the four years...

    Jellyfish report

On Sandy beach 2 weeks ago saw 2 small ones washed up. Our kids and grandkids were in the water and didn't have a problem - watched where we stepped. Bring down some ammonia just in case (I understand that helps the sting) - the water is so perfect! Over tons of years I've been in it during July...

    Sononyta speed trap

When SIL went back yesterday afternoon he didn't have any problems. He did say that the cop who stopped him was extremely nice the whole time and he never felt threatened or ill at ease. He also knew that he hadn't been speeding and was aware of where the signs were so was able to "show" the cop...

    Sononyta speed trap

It obviously is new as the cop himself didn't seem aware of it and had SIL take him back to the sign to show him - which is what he did. Either that or he figured SIL would simply "pay" the fine and drive on. They actually drove back to the sign. The cop did speed back through the 20 & 40K with...

    Sononyta speed trap

Our son-in-law just made the trip down this afternoon. He said that a van in front of him got the red light and they were opening all the doors and checking inside. Then it was his turn - red light and alarm going off. He rolled down his windows, answered a few questions and was sent on his way...
