    Thoughts on El Mirador

Yep -- Las Conchas and beaches east of that (Encanto, Dorada, Miramar) are for those looking for coastal living versus a more citified setting.

    Big fire by orphanage

Good to Good to know. From perspective down here in Penasco this afternoon, it looks like, say, three gas trucks were ignited. Glad it is about asparagus and not, say, Pinacate!

    Chicago VS Penasco: weather

What Miramar said, plus another factor: In, say, Cleveland, I remember about 9 months of the year were cold and dreary while the remaining 3 were touch and go as to whether it would be sunny and humid or balmy and rainy. (Granted, Cleveland is second to Seattle in cloud cover.) In contrast...

    Chicago VS Penasco: weather

Came from Cleveland not too much later. I still believe that there should be a law that anyone born in the Sonoran Desert must spend at least 1 year in the north, just to appreciate what they have (not to mention Penasco, where a beautiful shoreline is added to the mix) . . . .

    Dog requirements

While over the years “requirements” have gone from current shot records to current shots plus certificate of health, it seems to have leveled out and remained at “current shot records” over the last year or so. So far that’s been sufficient.

    Scorps on the beach

They’re indigenous. Have always been there. Without a UV light at night no one is usually the wiser. That said, if they’re more prolific this year, it might just be what we call “The week / month /year of the _____” (Fill in the blank. Sometimes it’s mice. Sometimes it’s rattlers...

    Scorps on the beach

They like the dunes by the beach. They've always been there, although maybe more prolific this fall than most. Without a UV-light search, most beachgoers are blissfully unaware after sundown. The only time in 20 years I got stung was at sundown, carrying chair and cooler up the dune . . . ...

The Elephant in the Room...THE WALL

“What keeps Ali in Mexico is not the danger of crossing the border, but rather the new administration's anti-immigrant rhetoric “ Oh now that’s funny. I especially loved the use of “anti immigrant” in lieu of “anti-invader.”

    Scorps on the beach

They do that during mating season. Years ago, we tried our best to dodge them on the road. Stopped on the beach road and let one climb partially up a (booted, jeaned) leg. Beautiful critters . . . .

    Scorps on the beach

How did I know that this topic would flush JJ out of silence to present a wealth of interesting info? (These kinds of threads are what drive me to the Forum, and are a window into the teeming life out there in the desert.)

    Scorps on the beach

After a tad of searching, I learned that scorpions reproduce during summer, so they would be plentiful now . . . just in time for when the (docile) tarantulas come out to mate (and munch on scorpions and cockroaches). Fellow scorpions, centipedes, lizards, birds (especially owls) and mammals...

    water shortage

Yeah, in rentals it is a good idea to bring toiletries with, and otherwise not be presumptuous about hotel-style service / amenities. I rented in LC for years before eventually purchasing, and learned to rent different properties until finding the best kept property . . . then sticking with it...
