    Santo Tomas pictures

That can be an absolute killer big pompano spot! One trip we were getting them on Zara Spooks and spoons.

Relaunch of a new development with a wind farm too!

Cirrios is very easy access. Easy to make a wrong turn as well. Stay left until you are close to the mountain then right to the beach. There are lots of rocks and we killed corvina with a few added rock fish. We tried this winter but everything we tried from San Carlos north was a bust due to...

Relaunch of a new development with a wind farm too!

Is that just north of the point north of the power plant? We were able to rent the beach for a day for $10 if it is. You just need to connect with the guy with the key. Our Airbnb host Don Chemin hooked us up. We did better shore fishing at Playa Cirrios south of town.

Relaunch of a new development with a wind farm too!

North of Desemboque ten miles, right in the heart of the action! Considering how few people make it to Sto Tomas after all these years I wish them luck. Maybe swap my Liberty Cove condo for a house here.

    Summer fishing

If you really want to be accurate, use the scientific designation. Nobody will know what you're talking about, but it will be accurate. As for people from Florida, I tell them there are no game fish in the Sea of Cortez. Who needs a bunch of gator heads out here? I honestly don't care what...

    Summer fishing

We call them pompano because the local fishermen use that name for them. In my picture I am holding a corvina, but feel free to call it a sea trout or anything else. I defer to local usage when I can get it from my amigos down there.

That is tragic! He was a truly generous person.

    Driving to Hermosillo from Penasco

I just did the coastal route coming north from Kino Bay to Libertad. That is a freaking adventure I will not repeat. Pot holes most of the way, some big enough to eat a suburban. There are about ten areas where the road is eroded down to one narrow lane with a big drop off on one side. YMMV but...

    Santo Tomas Corvina and Pompano

I have yet to feel any bad vibes in Caborca, and damn they cook beef in that town!

    Trip report 4/27 to 5/02

Amigo we crossed on Monday about 1:30 pm and there were zero cars in front of us. I have never seen that. They also had all of the US Customs booths/lanes open. I also have never seen that. YMMV.

I have no idea why they call them pompano, but I tend to follow local usage on local fish.

    Santo Tomas Corvina and Pompano

On my recent trip to Santo Tomas three of us spent a lovely afternoon and evening in Caborca. I heard zero gun shots which is less than I heard last week in Paradise Valley. People were friendly and the vibe was chill. We tried the new Charolesa carne asada restaurant. Wow what a meal! I rate it...

    Trip report 4/27 to 5/02

Four days of red hot corvina and large pompano fishing! The corvina were varied in size and skewed heavily to the shortfin variety the first two days. Size increased as it shifted to mostly orange mouth variety last two days. Each midday we found pinned bait pods just north of Jaguey fishing...

    Trip report 4/27 to 5/02

I will be fishing the whole beach and looking for pelicans diving. We do love the Pico de Gavilan and the "cup' or "jaguey" just to the north. That was where we camped back in the day.

Timeshare hell story from John Oliver

I loved their new company to get you out of the company that claims to get you out of your timeshare. Really funny unless you got drunk and bought a timeshare at Mayan.

    Surfcast puerto penasco

There are a lot of people so not the best spot. Better to fish off the rocks near Cholla or the Malecon in town. I mostly fish an hour south which requires 4x4.

    Surfcast puerto penasco

AZDan you are on the right track. I would add spoons as an option. Corvina are the only local fish that hit surface from my experience. The do not hit poppers, but love twitch baits and prop baits. You are not going to catch huge fish off the shore, so consider tackle you would use for large...
