    Paddleboarding with Dolphins

The sea's been gorgeous for boarding this winter. Calm, warm, and 35-foot-clear.

    Paddleboarding with Dolphins

This time, I was already out there lying on my board futzing with my new camera when I heard them snorting behind me. Other times, I see 'em coming and grab and go from shore. They'll slow down and play, letting me easily stay in with them for a half hour or more. What's really cool is when...

Fun day in mid-February playing with the pod that comes by Las Conchas a couple times a day.

Best Sunsets Thread - Let's see your sunsets

Remember that our natural eyes are a lens that's about 5o mm, approximated by phone and tablet cameras. A camera lens that's 300 mm is compressing the scene to make the most-distant objects--sun, moon, and other horizon features--appear bigger and closer. And it also picks out the...

I think you're saying, "That's a pretty sunset picture, Ruby." In your own way.

Best activities or restaurants for people with dogs

El Barco, the oyster palapa at Estero Morua, is a terrific place to take dogs on a sunny day.

Road Construction and conditions in Penasco

Roberto, I did that stretch from Kino to Libertad over Christmas. Probably rough in a little car, but 100 kph and not bad at all in something with big wheels. Scenic to the nth degree, besides. I recommend the drive.

    Satisfied Frog

Just came from there with HIGH hopes. Love the location. Always loved Ed's former products, and his son's place in Black Canyon City. A gorgeous Saturday afternoon, sitting above the water and watching the pelicans and trawlers. What a gigantic bummer! My house guests and I were hoping to...

What I love about Rocky Point?

Do it, Denise! It's a more commanding view than from a kayak. Feet shoulder width apart, centered on the board. Flexed, athletic knee position. Eyes on the horizon; don't look down! Hands on the paddle (one on top and one on the shaft) such that if you hold it over your head, your elbows...

    The Hut

Terrific venue for Friday's Jim Dalton and RCPM cover show, too. The seamless indoor-outdoor flow was great, and there were plenty of drink stations. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    The Hut

We stopped in on Monday and had a great experience. Staff was friendly and spot-on, and the remodel is super-high-end-classy. Kudos to ownership and management.

What I love about Rocky Point?

MBB, of course you have my support and permission. I have an addition! Tuesday I was paddleboarding off Las Conchas on an eerily calm and clear sea. So calm, I decided to test my nerve and go out much farther than usual. I could easily see sand dollars 30 feet down on the way out. Saw a...

What I love about Rocky Point?

I like the burrito ladies coming by on weekend mornings. Finding openwater weirdities like seahorses and fireblue jellyfish and an osprey taking a fish just off your bow. Playing "Find the ALTO Sign--Right, Median, or Missing!" on J. Dominguez. Stand-up paddling into a pod of dolphins and...

    HOME PORT (CRUISE) THREAD

I was out there Sunday, and nothing new had been done. Just the slightly improved access roadbed, the half-wrecked Wrecked wall, and those few boulders they brought in for the groundbreaking photo op.

Border crossing post Operation Bella Sirena- my/your experiences

Came in from the east on December 24. The usual military checkpoints near the Santo Tomas turnoff and south of Puerto Libertad were stepped-up, with at least one "federal investigator" car at the former. A new military "visual-only" setup just east of Las Conchas. Not stopping every car, but...

San Carlos to Penasco - Now 5 3/4 hours

The newly constructed route north of Puerto Libertad was comfortably about 6 mph faster than the old surface elsewhere, on balance. So maybe 5:15 for the whole trip, if the improved coastal highway were extended all the way from Penasco to San Carlos. Not at all worth waiting to use what's...
