March 15 - Smacking the hell-o out of the yellows....

Trent's dad Les was down from South Dakota, and we've been bugging him to get out with us on the boat for years, so when the forecast showed us a brief break in the wind forecast, we hooked up and headed south. Got into RP late Friday afternoon and met up with Jeff Boyd at the marina just as...

    Lobos Tips?

One more tip about taking a boat down to Lobos- BRING YOUR REGISTRATION PAPERS. There is a checkpoint just past the Mayan palace that may (or may not) ask to see your boat and/or truck registration. and regarding gas - if you have a 250+ mile range with a full tank, then RP to Lobos and...

    Lobos Tips?

Lobos is all beach launch in the bay east of the Lighthouse - If your zodiak can be pushed in by hand, then you will be fine. If you need to back it into the water on the trailer, then I wouldn't chance it with a 2wd... Arturo can launch you with his beach tractor, then park your trailer, and...

Fishing buddy(ies) needed for Feb 15-27

I've been towing my boat(s) back and forth across that border for over 4 years now, I've probably done 30 round trips with the boat in that time, and my Arizona registration paperwork is all anyone has ever asked for - I got stopped on the Sonoyta side just 2 weeks ago on Jan 3 - I presented...

    Yellowtail catch in Lobos

We fished Lobos the weekend of Jan 3-5 and caught a few small firecracker yellows, a ton of gold spots, and enough bonito to have a full day of light tackle fun. Shawno, Ryan and their wives were also down there and they also landed some yellows, and a decent 40 pound gulf grouper and a couple...

    Lobos Catchfest 11/8 - 11/10 with pics...

Rose-breasted sand perch. Give Shawno the fish ID prize... and give Stuart a great big "WTF...?" about throwing them back. Those little tasties are like gum drops to a Grouper or a Pinto Bass. Great catch Vinnie! we were out 50 miles from Rocky Point on Saturday, and the water was so...

    Fishing 11/9/13

Off the port-rear corner of my boat - The "Captain's corner" We were drifting some where south of Rocky Point, in water that was more than 60, but less than 600 feet deep... :p

    Fishing 11/9/13

We had a good day on 11/9... 8 Butts, 10 Goldspots and two Blackies- one 60lb, and one 130lb. Something else I noticed- there were ZERO whitefish out there. The day was especially good for me since I finally killed the gremlin that was infecting my Starboard engine - it turned out to be a...

New sport fishing and nautical tourism requirements

This permit system is mainly for Califonia fishermen who cross the border into Mexican coastal waters. There are no International borders on the Sea of Cortez - it is considered to be Federal waters.

    Fall Grouper Tournament

I'm planning on it. Can we still enter the 88 pounder that Trent caught on Father's Day? I could break it out of the freezer.... :veg:

did all the fishermen blow away in the wind?

No joke- for Shawno, "a little bit bumpy" means the waves were "just barely breaking over the transom" Shawno- the Sea of Cortez's own "Deadliest Catch" caliber fisherman.... the rest of us are all total sissies.

    Good surf fishing trip

If you give a man a fish, you will feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, he will spend that same day sitting on his boat, drinking beer.

    Good surf fishing trip

I totally disagree- the BEST thing to do is to put your fishing pole in the corner on the patio, grab another tecate out of the cooler, and watch other people drive themselves crazy trying to catch a fish... Peace of mind, baby.... peace of mind. I'm in a very "Zen" place this morning. 8-)

did all the fishermen blow away in the wind?

Every time I think I want to brave the forecast and go for it, all I have to do is go look at how dirty the boat is... Then, the thinking process becomes "do I REALLY want to spend 2 hours in 110 degreee heat cleaning this thing up, just so we can launch, and watch it sit in a slip at the...

    Reminiscing of better days

Speaking of Reminiscing- Seeing that picture of my roosterfish reminds me of that entire weekend in Lobos last August... The CRAZY wicked thunderstorms, towing my boat through numerous 2 foot deep mud puddles along the dirt road into Lobos (there were a couple spots in that road where the...

I'd go to boomfest if Zappa was resurrected for it.

I, personally, think "Valley Girl" was Zappa's greatest work of musical genius.... I'm certain it would HAVE to be Kenny's favorite Zappa song, as well.
