Once upon a time when we had a government with leaders that had cojones grandes this childish border crap was unheard of.

Do you remember when DEA Kiki got himself murdered near Caborca? The drug lord responsible, whose name I cannot remember, had a big hacienda almost next door the the old mission. The Mex police and military knew it and did nothing.

Late one night five blacked-out UH-1H Hueys showed up and blew the place to a smouldering rubble heap then flew off into the night. Sadly the head tamale wasn't home at the time but we did make a big contribution to the Caborca cemetery that week.

A little well placed fire and lead put the little scurrying cucarachas back into their toilet holes. The hit was within easy round trip flight operations from Ft. Huachuca, AZ.

The 'memos' and 'The Salazar' dispute the square (Sonoyta)....I thought that fat assed mayor was dirty.... Jim, I have been to the sq. block sized unfinished for 20 years Casa Raphael in downtown Caborca...no sign of bullet holes....for the last 25 years Caborca has been the center of a successful smuggling empire..,think your crew missed...just like Iraq when a president with no brains and plenty of balls( your boy Bush) ruined the world

My Commander In Chief was instrumental in putting a half million of those hairy-assed-camel-humpers six feet under within the first week of the invasion. I really have my doubts that they were ever able to locate enough of the seventy two virgins each had been promised by the howlers in the minarets that they had to endure all of their lives three times a day. Although, they never detailed what type of virgins to expect! That could be the difference between a hole and a pole!

I went down Friday the 8th. At the left turn past the Pemex and next to the other Pemex, I seen I bet 25 plus polica cars all lined up 3 deep. And of course the truck pulling someone over. Crazy, 3 pulled off and only one got the radar gun pointed in their face.

Went through Sonoyta on the 12th returning back. Saw many police and military heading out of town all ready to rock an roll. But I felt pretty confident they weren't after me and my wife and two dogs in the RV. Stopped and had lunch in our favorite eatery in Sonoyta. Glad to see all the police and military cleaning up the place. Donated a buck at the stop sign and moved on.

Came through yesterday about 11:30am. Waved on through at the border even with a loaded truck, 2 dogs and a boat in tow. Saw one fedarale car and one policia truck. By-pass is open and really nice and smooth. Federale checkpoint a couple of miles out of Sonoyta, slowed down and he waved us through. PDO starting to fill up. Hope the wind dies down a little.

First thing I saw this morning was the article about Sonoyta Fears on front page of Tucson paper. I wonder if that make people afraid to go to Rocky Point. 15 years ago we used to go down on Friday nights but not anymore. Daytime for us now.

This is pretty interesting that they are siting Puerto Peñasco as the hub.

About 4 trips ago on one of our adventures we were heading (I guess west) on route 3 and came upon a couple little houses off the side of the road. We Stopped asking for possible entrance to the dunes North of the highway... not much English, but the basic answer was no.

Anyways about half way to the house there was a Federales check point and when I mentioned headin back to the check point the guy I was communicating with instantly got concerned and really tried his best English on me to try to figure out how far away they were.
He flat out told me he needed to contact his peoples cause they were making a run into town and thanked me for the info...

I know that there is no lack for finding anything you want in PP, but it just seems so obvious that it would be a hub that I figured no one would take the chance. Considering the lack of constant contention for control there, there has to be more than just the ruling cartel keeping things civil.

I would love to see where the money trails lead. Much bigger fish than the local politicians.... Possibly some of the heavy land owners. o_O

I am sure that's no revelation but man it is unbelievable how loud , or in this case how quiet money can keep things.

They also reported Guzman escaped jail in 2014 when he's still locked up. We had Tacos tonight in Sonoyta, talking to someone who fishes in Lobo. We will not be going to Desierto de Sonora any time soon though.

Miramar, you cannot wish this away.it is a real war with far more casualties than the story reports.A few near misses down here,Y Griega,Caborca and Sonoyta(circle k) where it is just blind luck Americans were not wounded.....I see no easy way out but think it would be crazy to take this lightly,,,,,no night driving,windows down if tinted....The Factions are at each other's throats...

We are heading down Friday Morning for Fathers Day. I have been trying to not worry.

But a co-worker and her family are finally going down after quite a bit of talking up the experience for some time now. I don't want to voice or type anything that could cause.... well you know. I am not as much worried about our experience as much as theirs.

It's like recommending a restaurant and having a friend go the one night that the service and meal sucks! Lol.

At least they are all fluent Spanish speakers, Mexicans from L.A., via Sinoloa. But I have been harping at her for over a year and a half to go down. :confused:
