Eagle Eating

Is it an eagle, or an osprey? We saw some diving down and grabbing fish out of the canal. Thought they were eagles but decided they were actually ospreys.

That Wiki is a very interesting read Roberto. It seems to be it's own thing along side Hawks and Eagles.
I was was just putting a name to the bird though, not trying to prove or disprove whether it was an eagle or not.
It is a raptor like the others. Good enough for me.

I've never had a good fishing hole in all the western states and in Mexico that didn't have a Osprey fishing there too. They use the same nest's year after year and I've fished next to some of the same Osprey for years running. Jerry has a pair close to his place down Santo Tomas way that we have watched in the spring catching fish right in front of us and then over the dune's they go to feed their baby's that are close by. I've seen Osprey chase off everything from a Bald Eagle on down that got to close to one of their nesting sights in the spring.

I remember hearing about the Mayan Palace building some sort of structures on their property for the ospreys to nest on. Always thought that was a really cool thing to do and wish more was being done in situations like this to support the native wildlife.

There are several man made sites in Unconscious. A tall pole with a platform frame seems to work.

It might be only this one that does it, I found the health issues of not taking the catch into the nest to eat interesting. The nest would quickly be a nest of rotting leavings, bacteria and insects, a source of disease for the hatchlings.

Roberto, this is a serious question. Did you really think that this was an eagle or are you pulling our leg ?

Also, why do you call Las Conchas, "Unconscious" ?
Well, yes as I said, I thought without doing any research, it was a type of eagle, like the Golden or the Bald.

Go out there in the middle of an average week !!!

You should have just asked the damn eagle if he was an eagle. Of course if he was in Unconscious he probably wouldn't have answered.

Larry's a home port kind of guy and that was just his feeble attempt to put Roberto down because of his rebuttal to Russ's rant.

Very easy to not think it is an eagle. Anyone that is even familiar with observing the difference in size of a Hawk vs. an eagle would assume it is an eagle. And it's name derived from Greek means Sea Eagle.... Besides the fact unless you are into birds most people have never even heard of an Osprey.

I was beginning to wonder who would pick up the slack after JWT was booted. Was starting to get a little quiet here.
