Some of my friends have met him but as I said, the only picture I've seen in all these years was of him and his brothers as kids in Mexico. Oh, he rides a Harley or used to.

Larry's a home port kind of guy and that was just his feeble attempt to put Roberto down because of his rebuttal to Russ's rant.
Not true Kenny. Wrong again.

I wasn't putting anyone down. I was seriously surprised that Roberto, being in real estate and living in RP and knowing so much about Las Conchas and everything RP, hadn't seen or known about the dozens of Osprey poles and nests out in Las Conchas. They are just about as abundant as pigeons out there.

I thought he was pulling our leg, that's all.

My point is that you misunderstood lee's post thinking they're eagles out lobos way and the closet eagles are in the catalina foothills, sabino canyon and they happen to be golden eagles, I'll forgive Roberto since he's is a new vecino at LAS CONCHAS where the osprey has been flying around forever.
Right, that was kind of why I asked Roberto that question. They have been a fixture out in Las Conchas for the 30 years we have stayed out there. Their numbers have probably tripled in the past 5-10 years which is makes for some really cool observing.

Speaking of cool, this Osprey video is really incredible. They are so accurate in their approach, and their strength is amazing. That salmon in the last shot weighs about as much as the Osprey itself.

Enjoy.

Right about what? LOL I knew what bird Leigh was talking about, the Osprey, and I've never confused it with any other Raptor.
I don't think there should be any doubt that a Golden Eagle could kick a Bald Eagles butt. This is a very cool Video.

Wait a minute, thats an Eagle on the mexican flag? That video makes it seem as though the Eagle has been revered, idolized and used for/on everything from rituals to currency.
Man I learn something new everyday.

Kenny, I was replying to playperro, not Leigh.

I am aware you know your predator birds. I think you got a little confused in the differing threads.

I completely agree, the Golden is a monster as compared to the Badly.

The Osprey is a class unto it's own though. Not the biggest, but the best at it's craft of catching fish.

Glad you like the video Ken. Fun seeing a bird that is hyper-focused on fish, and no other game.

When I am out and about in the dunes and see rabbit sign, or mouse tracks, it's funny to think that even though the Osprey could take them easily, the Osprey are seaf00d-tariens (like vegetarians, but for seafood!)

We are on the same page Kenneth!

If you look up the history of the Raptor on the flag, there is some disagrement

If you look up the history of the Raptor on the Mexican flag, you'll see that there has been some debate on what bird was used in the flags early history.

So prior to 1821 the Virgin of Guadalupe was the crest. And since, there has been the eagle in various forms.
Interesting read, since the current form of the flag has only been in place since 1968. 2 years before my time but that's a short period of time.
Thanks for the history lesson.

Right and I should have said crest or shield when talking about the early years of the transformation of the bird. Did you notice how the birds had a crest on it's head in the earliest years? Not like a Golden at all.

Leigh sent me the picture of the Osprey nest from down Puerto Lobos way. Wish you could see it better, this nest is huge!

I think it's interesting because the changes over the years reflect the changes in the country's identity. It is something I think they are still struggling with.
Very off topic at this point but it is a very similar type of struggle we have in the U.S. in my opinion. From state to state at times it seems there is no loyalty to the overall well being of the country. For a while now it seems the eagle should be resting on top of random unmarked graves or weeping or something.
Maybe I am up to early.... Damn dog.
