You'll probably have to log on to FB to see this. His comment is: "Arranca la pavimentación en el puerto!! "modernización y elegancia" que tal?!"

Which translates, probably poorly, to: "Start paving the port! "modernization and elegance" what?!"

I heard Rosie briefly mention it on the Rocky Point Ramblings show this weekend, and it was promised by officials that it'd be done before the upcoming holiday weekend... Uh, sure. Can someone else chime in on this? I can't believe there would be no access to the Malecon and all the businesses during the weekend. That's a long walk if you have children and/or the elderly with you. And a helluva long walk back with a buzz for anyone!

If you can't see the pic, it shows the road going into the Malecon being completely blocked off starting at the V-intersection where the roads split off into one-way streets. The road coming back, going down the hill after the Friendly Dolphin, is not blocked off, but it doesn't appear that they're letting traffic through there at the moment. I'm sure some of the locals will clear this up for us, right? ;)

Hah, comment from the guy who posted the pic, in English, replying to my query, "Is the Malecon completely blocked off? No access other than by foot? How long will the construction last?"

"Martin Martinez There is still access to all Old Port .. Will last until completed :) welcome to Penasco"

OH, I see, friends of his are saying, if you are going to tear up the pavement, why not put something nice in there, like red brick or cobblestone, instead of just repaving it. Oh, and placing some sort of a sidewalk so you don't have to walk in the dirt or in the road.

I tend to agree with you about the inconvenience. Even if you were willing to walk all the way to the BooBar (and back), where would you park your car?

If they just made it so that people couldn't park on at least one side of the street on the left where the construction isn't happening, going the other way (like the side along the Friendly Dolphin), they could easily guide folks through that street as a detour. Think they could round up some extra bodies, orange flags and cones and make it doable?

Arranca is tear out!
In the contest that this person is using the word "Arranca" he is meaning "Starts" as in "Paving starts in the port" and the "que tal?" translate as "how about that"
After I posted the above statement I realized that Rosie already clarified it!! sorry for the inconvinience this might have cost to people like you that feels that by me re-writing that I will be wasting your time by you reading it a second time, now that was a waste of time!!

I'm trying to remember... can I drive up Zaragoza and park on Bustamante or Estrella? As I recall, Alcantar is one-way going down the hill but I'm thinking Zaragoza is either 2-way or one-way up the hill.

Can someone who has read the Spanish version of this please explain this Google translation? The project will go until the end of the year??? And what does it mean about a single street? They're only going to do one side of the street at a time? From that photo it appeared as though they were going to do the entire road. Or does that mean only each side of the one-way roads, so they will convert each side to two-way streets as construction goes on the other side of the hill?

I suppose you could ask one of the workers of the businesses on the Malecon exactly what they "agreed" on, but it's a wonder why they didn't start this on the week immediately following Labor Day.

If you make a hard left at the fork, that street (Zaragoza)takes you all the way to 10 de Julio...you should be able to make a right and empty out right before the turn into the Malecon (and the big parking lot).

The project will be completed this year, not before the end of the year, also about the single street he means every single street will be torn apart and filled with
concrete, You did real good with the one word translation yesterday, unlike the other two that tried to correct me. One of them can't ever read the signs at the border crossing..

Yo dawg! if you mean the comment I made in the "border" thread I read the signs correctly, it was the custom agents changing it at will to what ever they want as you are in the booth, you are rusty in your spanish, no wonder you use the babel or google translator instead, translating word by word does not help either in many situations you have to take in consideration the whole contest of what the word is being use in, I am sorry to tell you but as a native spanish speaker that had to learn english to be able to fit in the american society I have a big advantage in you when it comes to translate properly to spanish as I am aware of what they are saying unlike you and if you do not beilive just clink in this link http://www.merriam-webster.com/spanish/arrancar and you will see that that one word has a couple of different meanings.
And by the way I am not trying to correct you just bring your error to your attention so you learn from it and try not to do it again!! as you have shown before were you keep on making the same mistake!! further more just look at your signature and you will find a mistake!!

Whoa, so do you mean not only the main road coming into the Malecon, meeting up where it's already been paved, but in addition to Alcantar, the road leading out of the area going the opposite way, plus 10 de Julio (or whatever the other name is locals use), which is the road after the finished work on the Malecon that loops back to Alcantar, passing the Vina del Mar, the church, Thrifty ice cream, Mickey's, etc.? I can now see why this will take the rest of the year.

It'll probably include all the other sides streets as well, huh? Including Zaragoza, 20 de Noviembre, 18 de Septiembre, etc. If so, yikes! That would be rough on places like Posada la Roca Hotel, right through the busiest season of the year.

They are not going to "tear out" the street they are "starting" to pave it, which is a huge difference, they already teared it out when they did the upgrades almost a year ago.

Now even you should be able the see the big difference there!!

Basically all the streets will be getting new pavement in the port neighborhood, the first phase will be done by the end of the year, it is not clear if they actually mean that the whole paving will be done by the end of the year! and it seems that the idea is to leave half of the street open to transit so businesses will not feel the crunch as bad

Yes! That's what I was hoping. I completely forgot that half of the reason everything was torn up earlier in the year was to lay the new electricity lines, and that went all the way up to the last location of Portofino, though they did not put the same nice paving they have on the new Malecon all the way up to that area. It's pretty half-assed right now. Good to hear it's just paving and they're not tearing everything up again, save for the sidewalk area.
