In the CNN story, if you don't catch it correctly, the reporter almost makes it sound like there were American tourists who took photos of helicopter gunships shooting at the cartel.
Wierd scene coming into Rocky Point today.

I saw photos taken of the helicopters themselves in the air, but I didn't see any where there was ammunition actually being deployed.
I've spent the last four days in RP, we are leaving today. My impressions - shit got cleaned up real fast. Unless you are aware and know where to look, there is nothing to see. The locals are wonderful people and all have been quite gracious to us. The only hassle we've had are the hawkers on the Malecon and the jerk that tried to wash our car with his dirty rags, basically smearing the dirt all over my clean windshields. Then he begged me to pay him for this.
Apart from that, it has been a wonderful vacation - and I am not a fan of RP. No offense intended, there are a lot of positive changes, but I prefer mountains and forest.

addendum - if you take the Pirate Ship dinner cruise, stay away from the "dinner" option. Fortunately, we avoided this, but for the Canadians that thought this was a sit-down dinner, it was kinda rough. "mixed drinks" = margaritas, and I dunno what kind of beer it was, but there was plenty of it. The on-board show was very entertaining and despite getting stuck in the mud (twice) coming into the harbor, we had a glorious time.

Like I said, no offense intended. I've been to RP many times, my family loves it. If you tailor your expectations to US standards, you will be disappointed. If you look at everything as an adventure and let go of your expectations, you will have a much better time.

Although I believe he is, I'm just asking, is there a reasonable doubt? Matching DNA samples from blood only shows that MP was bleeding at some point. Doesn't mean he died...

By the amount of blood left at the scene, no one could of lived, plus the bounty on him he was probably taken by the same people that planned the attack. Just sayn'

With the protocol changes learned in Iraq & Afghanistan wars many wounded are surviving what would have been certain death in previous wars, including having their blood completely replaced 10 times over. I agree though, highly unlikely he survived.

Wasn't somebody asking about stats? This map shows the cities in Mexico where Americans were reported murdered in the last three years. 220 over 3 years with the bulk in 2011 at 113 and the low in 2013 at 36.

I am looking for some details on the blue van in the attached picture. It was facing north going away from Bella Sirena. Do we know anything about its passengers? Please post or PM me, thanks.

Terry - there were two vehicles inside the main gate turned sidewise as a roadblock. One was a silver SUV and one was a dark blue car. Neither of them was the blue van.

Thanks for that Estero, but I'm seeing a few issues with that link.
1. going to the chart source page, batchgeo, it appears that this site allows anyone to create a map of this type. I'm not seeing who actually created this map.
2. The source for the data is listed as "U.S. Dept of State" yet searching around on their website I can't find anything that corresponds to death statistics of American's killed in Mexico. I can't find anything that looks like the Dept of State compiles statistics of American's murdered abroad at all.
3. Even if the source were correct, it would be pretty amazing for a Government agency to put out 2013 statistics in just 4 days, one of which was a holiday. I'm not seeing any 2013 reports on the Dept of State website.
4. 220 is an amazing figure regardless, but I'm not finding it verifiable either way.
5. "Reported murdered" is kind of loaded. Was it later confirmed that the person was murdered? All 2013 data for cause of death have been verified as murder?
Anyway, if you can find some more information behind this chart I'd love to hear it.

that breaks out car accidents, homicides, drownings, etc. I ran a report for 2011-2013 which is attached. So whoever made the map got the data from the state department site and then extrapolated the data to make that map.
