Where Were You on 9/11

Those of us that lived through the political assasinations remember where we were when we first heard about President Kennedy, where were you when you got the first word of 9/11?

For Kennedy I was working in a hospital in Nyack NY. A nurse friend told me about Kennedy, with the comment "I hope it was not one of my people or you are going to have to protect me". She is black.

On 9/11 I was at the WMCA in Albuquerque, interviewing for a position in a middle school intervention program. The interviewer told me. It was total disbelief for me. Horror imagining being on one of those planes, in one of the buildings or worse having a family member there. Admiration for the folks that crashed the fourth plane in the field in Pa.

Roberto, I was here at home and at a condo I was trying to sell. I watched in horror as it unfolded.

The ironic thing was that my daughter-in-law was supposed to met her boss in the Towers that morning,
but he called her and canceled because he was sick. If not for that, my son would be a widower and
my granddaughter would have no mommy.

What little hair I have on the back of my head bristles at the thought of that day. My son called from his perch in
Long Island City and gave me a blow by blow as I watched. It'll never ever be the same.

Myself and 4 buddies were driving, and about 600 miles into the deep dark middle of nowhere in Quebec, Canada on our way to a 6 day Caribou hunt. With no cell service and no radio reception, we knew nothing about the attack until we arrived at the base camp around 6:00 pm. We were told an airplane had crashed into a building in New York and that was about it.(they didn't speak much English and none of us spoke French) so we just figured it was a Cessna that made a bad turn or got lost in the fog or something like that and smacked into a building.
The next morning when we were supposed to fly out to the drop camp they told us we would be delayed until further notice because nothing but military aircraft were allowed fly in North America.(not even bush planes in the middle of nowhere) Well, that got us worried, and since we weren't going anywhere any time soon, we drove about 80 miles to a ?... the best I can describe it is: the Quebec version of an Eskimo village, but they had satellite TV in the community center. That's when we all realized what had happened. We were told that the borders were locked down, so cancelling the hunt and heading home wasn't even an option.
After 2 more days at base camp we were able to fly out to the drop camp. We all had a great hunt and they picked us up and flew us back to base camp a week later. As we were headed south towards the border on our way home we started getting radio reception in the truck and by then they had determined that the A-Holes that hi jacked the planes had come into the country from Canada. So now we were all worried about showing up at the border with knives, guns, and various other "implements of destruction".
Well, the border crossing turned out to be easier than coming home from RP. Nobody seemed to care what we had or where we were going.
On a side note: my four buddies are from Eastern Pennsylvania, my Mom, Dad & Sister are in Southern New York about 60 miles from ground zero. After stopping to see them and making sure everybody was ok, I headed west and went home still shaking my head.
Although I didn't consider them "close friends" I knew 3 people that died that day.

We were home getting ready to go to work and my wife had a call from a friend, you need to turn on the TV. We did and could not believe what we were seeing. It was a mass of news reports and it was so hard to figure out what happened. Then the second plane hit and made the news. It still sends chills down me to think about it. About a year later a KTAR dipchit said a plane crashed into a tower in NY. He got his ass ripped for saying that and said I guess I should of said this was a year ago. I will never forget that.

We will never forget!

Sleeping, my parents woke me up when the first plane hit. Didn't realize it was a terrorist attack until a little later.

Still remember it like it was yesterday.
