Yes, looks to be. The greenish hue and yellow tail are usually dead give aways. Also, the front dorsal fin is a series of about 5 individual spines, not a connected fin per se. We catch very small versions of this on sabikis when we're making bait. I've also foul-hooked a fair share of them at La Pinta on Kastmasters. I think the foul hooking has to do with the way they slash at the lure, but seems like nearly all of them I've ever caught were foul hooked near the head, on the back, etc.

good to know that these fish are usually foul hooked and i just didn't get lucky... a lot of times i had many little baitfish following my lure up to about 4 feet of me so i was thinking id eventually get something if i kept at it. I was trying my best to keep the lure at the top of the water as that was when i hooked the leatherjack as the lure was skipping across the top of the water and creating a lot of noise and action. got stabbed by those 2 bottom spines underneath its belly but no pain involved. btw i was fishing out front of las palmas condos which are close to mannys. of the 3 days i fished i had 1 good day of calm water and got this fish and 2 other trigger when fishing with bait.... thx for the info Stuart. ill be back again this weekend for 5 days and plan on gettin out in a kayak to some deeper water and hopefully getting a corvina or 5 : )
