"Mangan said most of the violence is taking place in border towns and along roads at night, not at most popular tourist destinations....."

This is the case in most turistic cities since most of them are out of the drug routes.

"He is driving with seven friends and his father four hours from Tucson to the resort town of Puerto Peñasco, also known as Rocky Point, and will spend his entire spring break there.

"I feel most of the violence is in Texas, even in Nogales, but less so on the road to Rocky Point and in Rocky Point itself," the 19-year-old said."

Luckily we have no heard of any problems related to cartels or drug wars in RP and hopefully it will not happen thanks to the beef-up of federales in RP in the last couple of years!!
And the weather is getting nice for a trip south of the border!! :eek3:

All of that negative press does more damage than the bad economy... I live here and don't see any of the bad crap going on, but because of 3 or 4 border towns all of the country is paying the price and it just sucks...

Lannette Phipps from the RP Times sent out a notice of a tourism update meeting on thursday feb. 26 at 4:00 pm in the auditorium across from the city hall on the way to old port anyone associated with tourism is welcome to attend...

The subjects that will be discussed are:

border issues... passport status... NEGATIVE PRESS... intercoastal highway... and more

if you or anyone you know is in tourism please attend... and get involved!

Puerto Penasco over built without a good plan...we all suffer because the kings of real estate ruined Arizona property values and turned our great little town into a bad Mesa strip mall.

meanwhile on a positive note From the A.P.
"The number of foreign tourists visiting Mexico surged to 23 million in 2008, up 5.9 percent from the year before, spurred by the tumbling value of the peso against the dollar, the Tourism Department said Sunday."

Our good government has to do something to keep the tourist dollars at home. This trash talk seems to happen every time things get tough here.
