The Odham Radio Station

If you come from Tucson you have the opportunity to listen to some very unusual music. Not sure what it might be called. I listened to FM109 the tribe's radio station yesterday on the way back from Tucson. This is real local radio and to me a welcome break from the big guys blow. It reminded me of old time square dance music. Very unusual and entertaining. Anyone else listen to them or have a idea of the type of music. It was professionally done and recorded so it must be available commercially.

Its 91.9 FM I believe, "The Voice of the Tohono O'odham Nation." They switch up the music often depending on the show times. On Sunday it is generally these two young guys playing old timey country and native American tribal type music, but we have heard heavy metal, rap, reggae and other things (prior to me getting satellite radio). Here is what seems to be their streaming channel KOHN - 91.9 FM Sells, AZ - Listen Online

I'm surprised to hear the White Mountain Apaches don't like white people. They have always treated me very well. There are many working at the local businesses in the towns in the White Mountains and seem to do a good job and treat customers just fine.

Years back before I got Sirius satellite radio we would listen to that station on the way down and laugh our asses off. The range of music styles they mixed in a set was unbelievable hysterical. They would go from disco song to native american chants to pop to reggae to country and everything in between.

Last year when driving down on a Friday night, we heard KOHN 91.9 broadcast a high school football game- Warriors vs. Braves We loved it! "Quarterback throws the ball, but there was no one there to catch it." Anywhere else it would be called an incomplete pass!

This is a great Black River site..Black River Arizona

The Lower Black River: An Outdoor Guide before you head out it's going to help you avoid getting lost on the indian reservation, getting a steep fine for being on the wrong reservation with the wrong pass, breaking reservation laws, confrontation with wildlife and if you make it there, catching some scale tilting smallmouth, catfish and trout.

You guy's would be singing a different tune when you had to drive 55 with open containers and a few joints for 120 miles. Just kidding, they are very strict and hard to get out of a ticket.
