Squid fishing in Puerto Lobo

Went to PL on Saturday to dive the wreck, there were dozens of pangas fishing for squid.
A very well organized effort with refrigerated semi trucks being packed full.
We were told they were being caught 1 mile off shore so needless to say we didn't dive. Anyone know how long they are in the area ?

They are there until A) the pangas catch them all (highly unlikely), or B) the squid eat all the bait in the water and move on (highly unlikely). Wish I could give you a better answer, but they are up on the deep reefs in Penasco right now, too. We were getting grabbed by them while we were dropping baits this weekend and got a couple of rigs (400 lb. mono) cut completely off. Some of the Mexicans fishing on another boat brought several back in with them. You're wise not to dive with them around.

Typically, they are not there in the summer, although we've caught them in Penasco in both May and June.
