Read on Numero Uno this morning that Sam's Club and Auto Zone are coming to town. Anyone know where they will be? When? I do remember when the Bodega was going up that there was talk Sam's Club was going in next to it. There is an unfinished box like structure out on Sandy Beach :) - either have something finished out or torn down.

Auto Zone is suppose to have already been started and is across the street from the last gas station as you leave town. Sam's Club is suppose to be going in next to the Bodega, and is suppose to start construction within a few months. If it goes up as fast as the Bodega it won't be long before we are checking it out. I went online to sams.com.mx to see what they had available. Didn't look like many US brands in the grocery area - keep looking for BumbleBee solid abacore tuna and Hormel Chili.

Is this something you would like us to look for here and bring to you??? The tuna is pretty easy, but the Hormel Chili....there are lots of varieties. What specifically are you looking for? I am headed to Wal-Mart TODAY and would be happy to bring these to you!

Thank you for the offer. Friends brought down a supply not too long ago so I'm okay for the moment. And, actually, one of these days might even get up to Ajo! Or maybe they will open up the groc store in Lukeville again. Anyone see any activity there? I understand it was sold a while ago.

Price- Would I be better off buying a 40" LED HDTV in the states and bring to RP or at the new Sams Club in RP?

Mondone, a few months ago a LG 32" LCD and I think it was only 720p was $ 466.00 US at the walmart there. I think the box said made in Australia...... I didnt see any 1080 TV's. they didnt have much of a selection.

You are much better off buying it in the states and then bringing it down and hope to avoid the tax on it. I bought a 32 inch LG LED 1080 last christmas at my Sam's Club in Coahuila and the price in pesos was around $900.00 USD. The same television can be purchased in the U.S. for about $500.00. Most LG and Philips products are made in Mexico, exported to the U.S. and then brought back to Mexico via the retail outlet where the price seems to go through the roof.

I guess it boils down to if you do get stopped going into Mexico, what would the fee be on the TV if you didn't declare it? A 40" TV is kind of hard to cover up with a sheet.

I agree, wait till Sams Club opens and decide from there.

I bought a 32" Westinghouse LED 720P at Costco in Phx for $229, smuggled it down.
You won't really see the difference between 1080 and 720P until you get to 40" and above. I use a Bluray player and regular DVD's look great at 720P.
I bet even at the Sams Club a 40" lcd will still be $600+ dollars. Computers and TV's are so expensive in Mexico.

That's the plan!

I have found that Lukeville is one of the more liberal border crossings into Mexico. If the TV is out of the box and has the stickers removed, they will usually give you a pass on it under the assumption it will stay in Rocky Point. They are not as kind at the 31km checkpoint further in.
