Puerto Lobos 3/12

Holly Crap was that fun.Ted took Eric,Matt and me out fishing Saturday from Puerto Lobos.Matt's a fisherman...Eric and me not so much but Ted was great at showing us the ropes. The water was wild wild, real deep just miles from shore. We would drop the lure to 150 feet and bam..the yellowtail would hit it! We really had fun. We saw whales, had a sea lion steal a good fish, met some great people and learned a few things. It was great to get out of the old comfort zone and head down.
A few tips:
Not a boat guy but I would think twice about going down and launching a boat without going with Ted a few times...could be tricky getting back in and arranging logistics.
You can drive from my house in Santo Tomas to Puerto Lobos in 45 minutes on the new road and you are really in a different world..deep water...gritty little town that just feels like a different time. There are a lot of other trips one could do from down our way on and off the water.Come on down and check it out.

yellowtail...fun to catch, sushi is really good but better yet served in a Curry sauce over rice.... made me glad to be alive!

Wow! Thats amazing! From someone that doesnt have a boat that looks amazing knowing that you can still catch great fish from shore or shortly off of shore in kayaks. How long is the drive from RP?

Well these were caught from his charter boat(holds 4 fisherman) but it was within 8 miles of shore. They also catch fish from kayaks just off shore. From the Caborca turnoff outside of RP you could make it in an hour and a half now that the road is nearly complete. You turn on the dirt 60 miles out where they are constructing the small overpass (exit and take a few miles of good dirt until the new road begins.

"that island" is La Guardia on the Baja side - a 60 mile run from Lobos.

Glad you got on some fish! Ted is a great guy!

Yes, I understand. I was referring to the information I read on the link. Dirt road isn't an issue, I have a desert prerunner truck that beasts anything offroad with speed too. Do you have to go through Caborca to get to Lobos? Im assuming the highway that goes out to the Mayan is the road that turns into this coastal highway?

no just go the mayan way and go off the road at the big curve(a right) take a dirt road along the construction path for a few miles then pop back on the new coastal highway section which is a beautiful road...hey there a few huh? sections but you will figure it out.....also keep going south of Lobos to Libertad and take a few pictures for the good of the collective!

Jerry....when a bunch of us headed to Lobos over Thanksgiving, we just headed from Penasco past the Mayan all the way to the "Y" (or "T") to Caborca, took a right and hit the new road. Are they doing the coast highway back tracking from there, that is, re-doing the highway from the "Y" back to Penasco????
