Pemex Fuel exchange rates...

Please post the prices and currency exchange rates you've found at the various gas stations around Puerto Penasco recently.

My boat is empty, so I'll be pumping almost 150 gallons into it this coming weekend.

Even though they are all Pemex owned, I've noticed in the past that different stations around town post different exchange rates, and sometimes the prices are even different, so I'll be looking for the best deal on gas, and diesel for the truck.

You'll drive yourself crazy playing that game. I use the Circle K Pemex right by the railroad tracks on the main drag, then pull right out the back to Safe Marine. Yeah, I *might* save a few pesos dragging the boat around town to find the cheapest, but I'm all about convenience these days. And not knocking down telephone wires, other low hanging obstacles, crazed gringo and Mexican drivers and invisible stop signs.

Your boat sits a lot lower on the trailer, so maybe not as big an issue. Still, the less towing I have to do around town, the better! I used to tow it over to the ice house by hotel Paradisio and get shaved ice blown into the fish boxes, but seldom do that anymore because of the hassle.

The prices at the pump should be the same regardless of which station you buy at....the difference MAY come if you buy with USD, and the station is ripping on the exchange. Just hit one of the banks that have ATMs, get pesos out, and pay that way. You'll pay a bit for the ATM charge, but you'll get the official exchange rate. I used to pay wth a credit card, but many of them don't accept them.

Hah... that would be a short trip.

I usually use the CircleK near the marina as well, but sometimes that tiny parking lot is pure pandemonium. I guess the Pemex on Sinaloa near the PlayaInn is not too far away that I couldn't run over there if the CircleK is a madhouse...

I'll tell ya, the two biggest wins on any trip with the boat in tow are:

1) Did I make it through Sonoyta (twice) without getting pulled over and shaken down?
2) Did I remember where all the speed bumps are?


yeah the Ice house in Penasco is hardly accessible anymore, but I was thinking about stopping at the one in Sonoyta on 16Septiembre road on the way down and having the fish boxes filled there.

I pay with a Capital One Venture One Visa card at the Pemex on Fremont/Dominquez which is always a good exchange rate and they don't charge any foreign transaction fees. I use it strictly in Mexico for all purchases that accept Visa.

Any problems using the card there? A couple of the stations in town that I used a credit card at sometimes had problems with the connection (appeared to be a dial-up).

I've had similar issues using my visa at the first station on the left when you are entering town. one time I even had my bank on the phone with me while the guy ran my card and it came back denied, and the bank operator said she did not even see the transaction coming through.

Only used it twice there in the last couple months, but no problem either time. I would have used it more in the past had I realized they accepted credit cards. I always used it at most restaurants and Super Ley and the Wal-Mart when in town.

Yup...that's the one I had problems with in the past. Haven't bought over there in a while. The Pemex on Sinaloa and Fremeont used to take credit cards (in the little store...but the store closed down).
