My first warning from a Sonoyta police officer

I was pulled over last Sunday just as we entered Sonoyata town from the South and where the speed limit dropped. The officer showed me his radar gun which said I was going 64 kilometers an hour instead of the posted 45 K's an hour. I figured a fine was coming but the officer was very friendly & nice and said be careful, senor, this is just a warning. Pretty amazing!

It drops to 40K not 45. been caught there before. Now I always slow down before the sign.

Not me man....they'll never take me alive.

Actually, in all the times I've gone through there, I've never seen a radar trap and my radar dog has never barked through there.

Because of the warnings on this fabulous forum, I have been keeping my speed down to sub-sonic all the way through town.

Nothing is funnier than getting passed by some hot rodder going around the corner before the speed limit sign drops.. Love seeing these guys and gals getting pulled over.

A number of years ago I was driving up I-19 to Tucson and my bird dog was barking like crazy. This drop dead georgeous lady went screaming by me and I pointed ahead and to my radar.

She gave me the one finger salute and raced on ahead. About a mile up the road she was having a nice visit with the police. I just waved and she saluted me again. I chuckled for an hour.

That's happened to me several times on the road to RP from Sonoyta...my radar detector was going nuts and some idiot in their fancy SUV was closing fast from behind...I flashed my brake lights, and they just zipped by me....down the road I saw the Federale highway patrol doing a u-turn....as they passed him........

When I come into Sonoyta I always hit the brakes and keep it at 40-42kpm, at the 20 kpm sign at the pedistrian crossing, I slow down again,
really pisses of the locals who want to go 70kpm because they are in a hurry to get somewhere usually 2 blocks away. LOL

As far as speed traps go the Ajo sheriffs have been shooting radar in the US check points. A couple sheriff cars were parked in-between the 25 and 35mph signs
shooting radar, there were 3 sheriffs working together. They got me for my 1st ticket in 20 years, 10 over at the 35mph sign.
The park rangers have been really busy the past 5 trips down, they had 3-5 cars pulled over every time.
I sure don't mind giving the Sonoyta police $20-40 for my law breaking instead of the $220+ to the AJO court and have to go to a defensive driving class.

It seems to get to a point that it is not really law enforcement but a revenue source, on both sides of the border.
