Reality ..... It's going to blow like hell
YEAH BOYEEEEE.Berto, you going to swing by Cholla Bay? I should be tooling around Saturday and Sunday. Wind report is making me want to vomit but screw it, coming anyways.
what would you recommend squid or casting with kastmasters, grew up on lake ontario ocean fishing can be tricky, thanks in advance joe.Love the avatar of Beetlejuice! Lol Howard Stern original from back in the day. The best bet is to head over to Cholla Bay and launch at JJ's . The fishing is going to be around the corner to the SW near Tucson beach and Pelican Point. If the wind report holds up and stays true the point would be considered EXPERT paddler and I wouldn't recommend going out there. If the wind report stays true you wont be able to fish the point but because the wind is going to be out of the south the bay will be nice and calm so again, the bay is an excellent place to get the yaks in the water. Regardless of wind Cholla Bay is an excellent place to put the yaks in and start from. Paddle around to the south side of Cholla and the fishing can be quite good if you know what you're doing.
Anytime you want to fish/swim/snorkel/kayak think Cholla Bay...
The wind report is starting to look bleak

Does anyone here know if these darker spots in the water (on the pic below) are smaller rock piles or just a satellite glitch...? Has anyone ever tried grabbing coordinates to em and verifying whether they are indeed rock pile..? It would be an ideal close to shore spot to kayak out to, for those of us that stay closer to the Peñasco del Sol/Old Port area...
Some very good producing offshore reefs are large flat one's, so I'd assume the inshore one's would be as well. It's rock but not like what you are imagining. I have studied Google earth satellite images for a long time now. I was obsessed at one point. I think I even have an image I could post of me plotting out structure and charting distances.
What I have found is that it's definitely rock but when you actually get out there it's like flat rock if that makes any sense. It's like rock bottom but zero to little variation between that and the sand bottom. It's usually covered in a mossy plant so it's likely live rock or porous volcanic rock. The same "reefs" exist near The Reef "Wrecked" and out in front of the Mirador neighborhood "Mannys" and down the coast as Rob mentions. That's what's nice about having the Sonar, you don't have to waste time trying to figure out if its flat under you.
Now with that being said, I would much rather fish these areas as apposed to some flat sandy area with nothing on the bottom.
Some of the boat guys might be able to comment but I know a lot of guys make bait out around where all the shrimp boats are anchored. There's pry a reason why they all anchor in generally the same area. I assume it's because there is some kind of raised structure under those boats. Nothing in the sandy areas for an anchor to dig in. I could be wrong but because they're all parked nearly in the same area and guys make bait out in that area a lot. Bone fish and mackerel to my understanding. Those two things lead me to believe there pry is something in the water out that way but that's a little bit of a paddle.

Looks like our pretentious friend snuck in under the sand, from what I've heard he was a very good fisherman from shore, no longer comes to penasco but has fishing Knowledge about the Area. Same as Happy.Kenny! We were discussing where in the hell you went! I will take your advice on that and hook up with el Q ban to fish those areas he has pointed out. I still like Cholla Bay... 4 life.
