Is JJ's still closed for remodeling? I thought they were supposed to re-open in April, then by Memorial Day.

Still closed, as of last week when someone asked on a Penasco Facebook group. At least the remodel is still ongoing, slowly but surely, and has not completely stopped.

Are building materials hard to get down there? I would figure 2 months max to renovate that small of a building.

Admittedly this is slightly second hand info, but an employee of the previous owners, Joe and John, says the extended renovation period is because they decided to go with a decidedly "adult" theme, featuring a raised dancing area, brass dancing poles, private "conversation only" rooms, private hot tubs/spas, all terraced out toward the beach on various levels. As well, he said the ever popular fish tacos will be be available.

Lovin it in RP!
The delay in reconstruction has to do with the fact that the cantina was never upgraded with CFE to handle all the new equipment being installed, walk in freezers, etc. Getting the necessary power has been the problem, it seems to have been rectified now so it should be any day now. When asked, the new owner, Randy said in reply to "when are you gonna be open?" with " New Years day" jokingly of course.
