JJ's Cantina Newsletter

Lovin it in RP!
Our friend Jose Anacleto from JJ's Cantina is sending a monthly newsletter out start this month. It is not news, he said it is more like upcoming events. He asked if I could put out an invitation for people to look at it so here is a place that you can put your email address if you want to get his stuff from Cholla JJ's Cantina Newsletter FYI

Joe once told me that there haven't been enough low tides during the dates and time they would hold the races.
I also suspect that a lack of interest is also factoring in. Over the years I have seen less entries compared to the early 90's.
Times and peoples interests do tend to change. The youger crowds are doing different things.

Being a native a cholla bay, birthed right there in the sand out in front of JJ's in 84, I can say that I always liked the 1 Club Open. The Memorial Day fish fry at the ol boys club is pretty awesome too, not really a JJ's thing but Chollabay4life

The last time I saw the races, they wound up having them up by the "Old Boys Club" because of the tide issue....on the sand...not as funny as on the mud.....half the entries were various Fire Depts from the Valley...

Bathtubs set-up with wheels, usually were sponsered by a company, manned by a crew of 6-8. 1-2 people have to be in the tub while being pushed and pulled
over a course with 1? 180 degree turn, over and back. On the beach in front of JJ's.
Usually the teams were well lubricated prior to the start so the team that had it's act together usually won.
A few years ago there were 16 teams in the field, last time I saw them there were less than 10
Lots of fun and laughs especially when the girl contestants were in bikinis, just a guy's point of view.

That does sound like alot of laughs and fun. I hope they keep doing it - just for tradition. We are going to be down in 2 weeks, plan on hitting JJ's every day they are open.....maybe we can stir up more interest for a future race. Have plenty of crazy friends who would love to participate.

Walk around inside JJ's and check out the photos on the walls...you'll see plenty of the bathtub races, and other events over the years!
