Fishing off the Mirador Beach

This morning there were at least 6 pangas working a fairly small area for a long time. They were out far enough that it was difficult to tell exactly what they were doing. 2 to 3 people in each panga, boats appeared to be drifting, two seemed stationary. Best guess is they were using nets. No pelicans or sea birds working the sea around them.
Guesses??

How does that work? You mean like they were all working together? Might be but the movements of the boats seemed random and independent of each other.

Most of the time when you see a group of pangas fishing close together they are gathering shellfish using snuba, air compressors with hoses to allow divers to scour the bottom. We saw huge loads of conch coming in earlier this summer. My guess is they end up in china. But am not sure.

I think I would have been able to see those compressors if they were there but none were obvious. I see those compressor rigs in pangas all the time on the streets and also loads of conch in the back of trucks. I think they should have a skull and crossbones on them. And yes Moon, the big place on the way into the Malecon definately buys a lot of conch and definately ships a lot to China. Have a friend who worked there cleaning conch and we rented a house to a guy from China who was here doing quality control for his company in China. Moon is a big operation.
