fished low tides and did alright

was in RP from the 10th to the 15th. Wouldn't dare wet a line until Sunday rolled around and the water was finally calm. Was fishing low tide around 7 am with blue and silver crocodile lures. caught 2 leatherjacks and 3 spotted sand bass on Sunday, caught 4 sand bass on Monday around the same time and one being atleast 2+lb and 15 inches in length biggest one i have ever seen put up a great fight in the rocks and caught a few more sand bass on Tuesday morning before heading home. all i wanted to get was 1 corvina and couldn't pull it off might need to get out on the kayak next time!!!!! Throwing the lures is so much better than bait fishing especially when your catching fish. just cant seem to get a corvina though....was catching fish on any lure i had that was blue and silver. green and silver didn't seem to work although i had needlefish and leatherjack darting around after it but no strikes

sorry for no pics as i was fishing solo and was waist deep in water.

until next time.....

Nice report, thanks! Where exactly were you fishing?

I caught spotted sand bass in the La Pinta estuary a week earlier trolling a deep diving crankbait from kayak.
I wished I'd known they got so big or I would've kept fishing for them longer. Heck, if my wife really thinks that "going fishing for a couple hours" means anything less than four or five hours, she hasn't been paying attention.:gofishing:

I got into them three hours into my paddle and caught four in rapid succession including two on one lure. But they were all under 9 inches - like catching big bluegill - more trouble to un-hook, especially from triple treble hooks, tired, in the wind, with two foot swells and no sea anchor.

Like you I wanted corvina but it was not to be this trip.

You need an anchor like I use. Cheap and almost weightless. I use a 1 gal milk jug and fill it with gravel when I go out. It has never gotten caught in the rocks to a point that I can't pull it up and when on a sandy botton it works like a sea anchor.

Good idea, I always figured the ocean would be too deep, but max depth is 25ft. so a bottom anchor is definitely practical.
