Fire in the Old Port this Morning

Taking a cruise through the Old Port about 10 or so and was redirected at the intersection next to La Roca. Parked and walked down to chat with Cisco at Marys and saw that the emergency equipment was parked in front of Thunder at the Beach. No smoke or flames but Cisco said they had a fire. Put a crimp in business for an hour or so as there were few people.

Hot and dry today.

Just spotted more smoke that looks like it is on the east side of town - anything knows anything about that?

Las Conchas guards say they decided to burn trash at the dump today. They clearly didn't check the wind forecast like some of you had in other posts. Some houses are threatened.
I thought it would be good to reduce the flies but they said the random dumping of conch shells would make it 10 times worse in coming months. i couldn't believe how many conch they were bringing in at the Cholla Bay ramp yesterday! had to be 30 or 40 pangas or trailers

Lovin it in RP!
Each boat brings in 2000 lbs or so of conch. The amount of empty shells at the city dump is amazing. I was just there yesterday and it is mind altering to say the least. At least they are mostly dumping at the landfill and not in the desert as we experienced in the past.

As for all the conch shells, it's too bad the city couldn't find a way to return all the empty shells back a mile or two offshore to create an artificial reef. It could turn into a nice spot for snorkeling or for kayak fishing, etc.

My friend in the Bahamas who free dives 50 plus feet for conch told me they always put the shells back in the ocean so small sea creatures can seek refuge

We should raise some money and pay a sea version of a bottle deposit return fee at a GPS spot where empty conch shells are then dropped back in the water....
