Alot depends on the time of year, and what you're planning to do when you get there. I've done the run 3 times, twice before the road was complete, my last time the road was complete. Loaded up my rail and Rhino on a trailer and made it a day trip. It was the weekend before Easter and was packed to the moon. From town to light house hill and far down the beach was endless vacationers.
Our first stop ariving to town was the bar/resturant El Capitan', we staged there unloaded the toys and toured around all day. The amount of people that were there especially at the hill was unreal. I've also been ther when there was no one.
If there's one thing to be said about the El Golfo area is bring a toy, there are trails every where and some fantastic views. As for town I like to describe as RP 30+ years ago. One thing I'd like to try next time I go would be fishing. From what I saw, Panga's would be the only option. I believe there is no port, and the panga's are towed by what ever means to the waters edge. I can only speculate the fishing would be decent not far from shore. Anyway, 90 miles from RP to El Golfo, nice road a full day adventure.
