Cross Border Movers

I have heard lately that some of the people offering to move stuff across the border are not licensed to do so. They are offering the incentive of a cheap price with a huge risk. If someone is offering a moving or delivery service from the U.S to Mexico or vice versa they must have federal authority , DOT and MC numbers in good standing and the minimum insurance to operate legally this kind of business . If anyone does business with a company or someone offering this service be aware that you could lose everything when they get caught. It has happened. This is a huge risk now what with the increased level of inspection at the border crossings, both ways. On the US side the crossing into Mexico is usually staffed by people form several differing agencies, local, state and federal, each looking for different infractions so be aware. Ask if they are DOT legal.

I saw them hauling a big load on my way down last week. Sign on the side of the truck, etc. Looked legit, but I dunno...

I know Geoff casually and we have some mutual friends. Everyone says he is top drawer when it comes to this stuff. I guess he is not the cheapest but he does what he says he will do and he is legal. You can imagine headache and expense caused by the morass of regulations and permits required to move stuff across the border legally. He also has to protect himself from people packing in illegal stuff going either way. What a headache.

A mutual friend told me this story some time ago. Geoff was packing up stuff from a condo to take back to the US. A small packet of white powder was found in the head board of a bed. He walked away from the job. That's a serious risk for someone in the cross border moving business.

Could of been an Aphrodisiac called spanish fly, which is very common on head boards.

Or it could have been SpanTran. Half Spanish Fly and half Tranquilizer.

It makes you want to go out and get some, but if you don't you don't feel too bad about it.
