Corrupt police?

Considering a long term visit as a middle aged gal with two dogs. Is it safe? I came across this

is this a problem? I've travelled in PV quite a bit and there were a few bribes, one for parking and another at the airport to get a frozen turkey in for Christmas dinner. But what I'm reading sounds more intense.

Also recommended sources to begin my search for dog friendly accommodations in a safe area by the beach would be appreciated. Need wi-fi as I'm a remote worker.

I am glad you posted it. I sent it to my property manager and to the RPT. Some years back, I had a rental and a couple came down with 2 teenage boys. I happened to be staying in my 1 bedroom at the time and the mother came over and told me what had happened. I took her to the manager at LP who called the police. They came and interviewed the boys. It turned out they had wandered off property look for drugs and got robbed. Still it should not happen. Their mother believed they were still at LP and not wandering all over town. That has been 20 years ago.

I have replied to that thread on TA (#10 and others) - it seems a LOT of those posts are from people with only one or maybe a few posts on TA - I would recommend you search this forum for a more accurate measure of people who frequent Rocky Point. We feel VERY safe there, and have been returning every year for well over 10 years now with our RV. Friendly people, great food, reasonable prices and the beaches.

That is a problem in whole Mexico. You are more of a target with US plates. Cops there have very low salaries and tend to act unprofessionally.
Mexican law requires you to go to police station and pay infraction fee. That can make you feel like you are being kidnapped. Also there is a language barrier and some tourists think they are above the law just because they are there spending money.

I was just targeted coming through Mexicali. They said my dog had to be in a carrier or on a leash inside my truck. They told me it was a very expensive fine. So I told them okay and they escorted me to a small police station. First they told me it would be 1600 pesos, they were waiting for me to offer something so I just stood there. Finally they wrote me a ticket for 203 pesos. I get pulled over every other time driving through Mexicali. Normally they just let me got.

My family was pulled over in January for speeding. We were going 25 mph because we know better. The officer covered his face with a scarf and he was quite jovial. Said he liked our dogs and asked if we had a good time visiting Rocky Point. Then he took my husbands drivers license and would not give it back to him until we gave him $60 which he lowered to $40 when we said we didn't have it. It was a total shakedown. Next time I'm filming everything on my phone without him knowing it and I'm emailing it to every news station in Arizona as well as Mexican officials. This is ridiculous and should not be allowed by the officials there. Just ruins your trip.

I had the same question about which city this occurred in. I figure most likely it was Rocky Point, but could have been Sonoyta.

Many years ago I did safety equipment in Sonora. I really watched the speed. Most problems were after leaving Hermisillo. A safety director at Ford in Hermisillo told my to carry a camera and notebook. When I got stopped I started writing. First asking if I could get out of my car to record my location. badge number etc. I knew when I tried to take their picture and they would not let me that they wanted me to go away. We still drive to Mazatlan and have noticed the last couple of trips, that the inspection stops have gotten much more professional.
